The Reds need to start seeing more pitches. Suppan is not that good, but they only made him throw five pitches in the bottom of the third. Work the count!

It's Kriv's love for leadoff guys with a .600 OPS.
Or perhaps, Baker's love for one of his buddies.
I'm guessing Patterson's done by May 31. Does the Bruce era begin then?

If we want to go with Patterson, then fine, but, at the very least, let's NOT have him bat leadoff.

That was my question a few days ago. At this point, I just don't see Bruce overtaking Patterson until September. He "didn't" do it in Spring Training and Patterson's MLB salary turns out to be $3M. How bad does Patterson have to be to be sent to the bench with a $3M contract? I think the Reds are going to ride him a long time this year and may even bring him back next year.

At what point does the Corey Patterson experiment grow stale? He's only hitting .227, which wouldn't be alarming if he had shown the ability to post consistently good offensive production in the past. Votto can't sniff the field due to underwhelming performance, but C-Patt is out there every day. Well since Corey is a Veteran player he'll give him more of a leash. Which I hate.

Depends on how poorly Patterson hits and how well Hopper does pinch hitting. With Hopper's attitude, I could see him wining the job over Corey.

It's interesting to see another team go with the pitcher batting 8th. I suspect that the statistical analysis groups in the front office of the Cards and Brewers have uncovered something.

Perhaps, but to me, if that was going to happen, it would've happened in Spring Training. I'd love to see Hopper in center every day, but I think Patterson has won the job after Hopper failed to impress in ST. It would take a collapse by Patterson or an astonishing hot streak by Hopper to change it now.

It defintely worked there. Nice bunt by Suppan, and Kendall picked JJ up. I think we'll see more of it, but it might just be the flavor of the month. I'm sure a lot of people will be paying attention to the Cards & Brewers this year. Lou Piniella occasionally bat Rijo #8 if I recall.
