Per Fay:
Reds trade Coutlangus
From the Reds:
Tonight the Reds acquired from the Diamondbacks minor league OF Daniel Perales in exchange for LHP Jon Coutlangus.
Perales, 23, was selected by Arizona in the 22nd round of the June 2006 first-year player draft...last season at Class A South Bend he hit .282 and led the Diamondbacks organization with 92rbi while ranking among the Midwest League leaders in hits (156, 1st), extra base hits (58, 1st), doubles (32, 5th), runs scored (80, 3rd) and triples (10, 3rd)...he has been assigned to FSL Sarasota.
Coutlangus, 27, was designated for assignment as 1 of 11 roster moves on Opening Day.
Star/Lark - What can you tell us about this kid? Looks like a good move.

Well, he wasn't among the top 30 D-Backs prospects. In his short career, he's got a .279/.343/.457/.800 with a 135/67 K/BB ratio. At the moment, he doesn't look like much, but maybe the Reds saw something in him. Here are his minor league stats: minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=31751Here's Rotoworld's take, for what it's worth. Diamondbacks acquired LHP Jon Coutlangus from the Reds for outfielder Daniel Perales. Coutlangus cleared waivers last week despite having options remaining, so there wasn't much demand for his services. He struck out 38 in 41 innings for Cincinnati last year and held left-handers to a .231 average, but his control problems make him unreliable. He'll still be nice to have around for Triple-A depth. Perales, 23, hit .282/.338/.462 for low-A South Bend last season. He doesn't project as a major leaguer. Related: Reds
I'm a bit surprised to see Coutlangus make it all the way through waivers, but maybe no one had room for him on the 40 man this early in the season.

Coutlangus became the odd man out. With the additions of Mercker and Affeldt we filled the LHR spots on the big club with guy's who are proven. Then we have guys like Bray, Pelland, and Herrera in the minors, all who are younger and have more upside in the long run when it comes to making the Reds better.
I like the move it adds depth to the outfield in the minors because Jr. will be gone after this season and Bruce should be ready to make the jump into the bigs. When Jr. is gone and Bruce takes over in RF you can expect some guy's like Dorn and Stubbs to make the jump to the next level. This trade also can lead to another deal that could involve Dickerson, Anderson or some of our lower AA and A ball outfielders. The guy we got in the deal Daniel Perales could be one of those names involved in a trade as well. Perales can swing the bat judging by his #'s.
This wasn't a big time move but not a bad move. Coultlangus may never be an impact player at the major league level. So I'll take a young guy that can swing the bat any day of the week.
