I'm going with 3rd. I just don't see enough to stay in contention with either the Cards or Brewers this year. Larussa gets more out of mediocrity than any manager in baseball and Pujols is simply the best player in the national league. The Brewers have a very good team and will only get better once Mike Cameron takes over center field. I would have chosen 2nd had I voted before the Pirates sweep!

I fear it may be fourth, ahead of Pirates and Astros, but I would have said third, like most here, before the current slide. It still seems to me like we don't have a major force--an MVP calibre player--in our everyday lineup. Even the 1990 Reds, a "sleeper" team--if it's acceptable to use that term for a wire-to-wire team--had that kind of threat in Larkin and in a bullpen that, collectively, was MVP quality.
I don't see it with this team. It's hard to believe our pitching isn't going to end up much better than in the past couple of seasons.

Our ptching, other than a couple of games, has not been the big problem. It has been Dunn, and EE hitting sub-mendoza, and Phillips and Griffey not driving in runs.

I agree; that's the only reason I can see for picking third place.
