Is the Reds 40 man roster outfielders the worst collection in MLB?
Will Benson Blake Dunn Stuart Fairchild (60 day IL) Jake Fraley TJ Friedl Rece Hinds Jacob Hurtubise Nick Martini (60 day IL) Spencer Steer Joey Wiemer
10 guys taking up 8 40 man roster spots and is there one person on there you want in the Reds major league starting lineup two years from now? Maybe Steer, but honestly, he's an infielder playing OF out of necessity. Even now, I still get taking Burns, because pitching is always valuable, but man, the Reds sure could use a power hitting OF. Let's hope they have some balls in FA and make at least one splash there. The Locked on Reds guys think they are sitting at about a $70 million payroll heading into 2025 (arbitration figures estimated) and if the Reds are serious, they need to bump payroll to about the $120 million mark, which would give them $50 million to spend.

So, 10-years and $500M for Juan Soto? That's an AAV of $50M. Or, should we save that money for Elly? But, I agree with you on the outfield, pretty remarkable what we are running out there, especially since LF is about as far down the defensive spectrum as you can slide and we still can't fill it with a good hitter?

If we could somehow get Juan Soto here, do it, worry about Elly in 4-5 years, we'd have both over that time hitting 2nd and 3rd. Fun to dream big, even if we all know the reality of the situation.

I 100% agree with this. It'll never happen, of course, but we can dare to dream. Signing Soto would make us legit WS contenders for 2025, full stop.

Does the Votto extension give any confidence that we would spend like that again? For me, it kinda does, but maybe that was forever and day ago and no longer matters. That said, I feel like that extension worked out well for player and team; didn't feel like a massive overpay or a traumatizing experience for the organization.

If we aren't going to sign top guys (our top guys at the very least) to top of market deals, why are we even trying? No one is saying spend like the Dodgers and Yankees, but they have to at least spend on their very best. Taking a risk outside (a bigger risk than Jeimer with a better potential reward) has to happen at least once a generation. If they aren't even going to try, then prepare to watch attendance turn into what Oakland has been in recent years.

This team su$$s so bad nothing can help them. Got blasted by the Bravestoday 15 to 3. I give up they will never be anything but a fourth or fifth pace team.

Every blockbuster signing is risky, but barring injury, of course, Soto's about as safe a pick as there is on the board. And when is the next time we're going to have this much high value cost controlled young pitching? if I thought we had some impact bats in AAA ready to break through, that would be different, but this team is not going to win anything without more offense.

The Reds haven't spent more than 64M$ on a FA during their entire existence yet you guys want them to spend 500M$ on Soto.
lol

Michael Conforto is another name i've seen bandied about by Reds fans. More of a LF at this point in his career, but he'd be significantly cheaper than Santander and there would be .800+ OPS upside
