What say you Reds Nation?

The Reds would save $13m by not picking up his option year. It's $20m if he plays, $7m to opt out. Votto's still a decent bench bat, but I just don't see him bringing $13m of value to the table. Now, if he were willing to re-work that option year to a more team friendly sum, I would love to have his leadership in the clubhouse. But I think money would be better spent trying to lock down a FA starter.

Looks like the poll is locked, but I would have voted "return to the Reds as a player". Votto has been injured and thinks he is better than what he showed in 2023. I don't think he wants to walk away and think "what if" for the rest of his life, which is understandable.
If he returns, he should surely return to the Reds. I think he'd greatly regret not staying with the same team, and the Reds are a young and exciting bunch with a real chance at the postseason, so no reason to go elsewhere really.

Votto is the face of the franchise. Probably a future HoF, but watching his performance from 2019 until now, I'd say it's time to ride off into the sunset.
This year was a passing of the torch. Financially speaking, I think it's time to wish Votto well and invest that money into players of the future.
Lord knows there's only so much to go around.

What say you Reds Nation? Honorable that Joey spent his entire career up to now as a Red. Have to wonder why a player would not at some point want to be on a playoff team. Perhaps play in a World Series at some point. Joey was content on staying in Cincy and not jumping into free agency and a contending team. Appears Joey lacked that fire to be a winner.

We should try to bring in Joey as a hitting instructor for our system.

We should try to bring in Joey as a hitting instructor for our system. For a long time, I wasn't sure if Votto would be a good hitting instructor. I feel that his offense was centered on plate discipline, which is extremely difficult to teach. Seeing the evolution of his approach the last couple of years though makes me think he can find other ways to succeed, ways that benefit players who do not have his skills. It would be interesting to see. I'm sure he has forgotten more about hitting than 99.9% of what people ever knew. He would surely command instant respect from the players.

Throughout his career he struggled with his approach, to the point he had a couple of seasons where his number just cratered. I think he hangs up his cleats in Toronto as a DH, IMO. Great guy, doesn't have the temperment to "boss" people around, I think.
