Howard picked up his first professional save last night. If you thought the Major League save stat was meaningless, boy, you clearly haven't heard of the Minor League save stat...

4 walks in 2/3 of an inning last night. Hopefully he has the resolve of J.J. Hoover.

I stopped caring about Nick Howard's struggles a while ago. In hindsight I guess it would've been easier if he missed the 2015 season with an injury, rather than an inability to throw strikes.
I look forward to seeing what he does with a fresh start in 2016, at age 23.

Certainly the worst first round pick in the Buckley era. Stick a fork in him, he's done.

How many first round draft picks, healthy - mind you, top out in single A ball?
He's 23 years old and should probably be in RK ball.

I wish we would have taken Forrest Wall. He was the guy I wanted that draft, and he's hitting well at 20 and is already in High A. He'll either be a 2B or CF.

For those not following along, Howard has now walked 5 hitters in his 1.0 inning pitched, which is stretched over two appearances. So, basically, his pitching yips have followed him from the 2015 season to the present, which is obviously a very troubling sign.

Looks like a failed first rounder to me. At least it wasn't a early first rounder like they had during the Bowden years.
Still drafting college relievers and turning them into starters always feels like a mistake to me.

I don't mind as much trying it after the top 3-4 rounds, but I agree it's unnecessarily risky to do with top draft picks.

I agree that it isn't a problem after the first few rounds and like drafting guys with signability issues drafting a reliever to convert to a starter at that point may be a way to get first two round talent for third/fourth round cost.
