I think Edwin will be fine. It might help that I like the guy and am a little biased towards him. I think his glove and bat both come around this year. I don't like him hitting 6th though. If I were the Reds I'd move him higher up in the lineup. Not only will that give him some protection but it gives him a chance to drive in runs which is what he does best. He seems to thrive with guys on base but look clueless when th bases are empty. I think yesterday Baker showed he has faith in Burton despite a bad spring. I really think he wants Burton to be the guy to go to in the 7th. Hopefully Burton comes out of this little funk he is in and returns to last years form. The team still strikes out way to much. Webb is an excellent pitcher but the Reds really need to cut down on the strikeouts (again this year). Cordero will be a solid closer in Cincinnati. I liked the way he was pumped up yesterday after the strike out even though we were down 2 runs. Patterson looks good in the outfield but I don't believe is the guy this team needs to lead off. His career OBP is what around 300? I'd still prefer Hopper in CF over Patterson. Of course I'd rather have Bruce but that doesn't seem to be a possibility at this point. I hope you're right, Bisch. My patience is running out on Edwin. I'd love for him to live up to what I used to expect out of him, but I'm just not sure he's ever going to do so. And, every year he fails to do so, his trade value declines. Especially with Keppinger in the mix, I think we could have dealt Edwin this past offseason without much of a loss.

It's time for everyone (including Edwin) to stop with the excuses. He needs to produce. It would be one thing if he was really hitting the ball. Then, you could argue that his bat makes up for his weak defense. However, at this point, he isn't doing much of anything very well. I don't put much stock in Spring Training stats, but Edwin's were horrible. That doesn't instill much confidence, nor does his opening day throwing error. I don't know what his problem is, but he needs to get it into gear this year. ASAP!!!

Thats my biggest problem with Edwin. I think he has all the talent in the world to be good, but I think he lacks what it takes mentally to play the game.
Too many lapses in the field like lolly gagging that ball to first and then I think sometimes he tries to crush the ball at the plate and pulls off of everything. I think that maybe he just isn't together upstairs.
