Surprising move considering the value normally placed on left-handed relief pitching. Now we go into the season with Bill Bray and Tyler Pelland as the only left-handed bullpen arms at AAA should Mercker's arm fall off.
1 more spot on the 40 man has to be created before game time....

He went from Low A to AA last year and dominated even moreso each step up the ladder. if he continues to build on the success he had last year he could see some time this year and be in full time in '09.
Burton
Roenicke
Viola
Cordero
Bray
These 5 could form the nucleaus of a fantastic bullpen over the next few years if they can stay healthy and reach their potential.

I think it's a pretty baffling move. I don't understand cutting loose Coutlangus or Richie Gardner.

I hate to lose Gardner. He was our top pitching prospect in 2005 before sitting out 2006 with major shoulder surgery. He pitched very well in 2007 and I've always heard it really takes a minimum of 2 years to come back from shoulder surgery if successful.
We need all the cheap starting pitchers we can get in the organization. Seems like they could have cut loose Anderson, Ramirez, or Colina before trying to pass Gardner thru waivers.

Should have been Anderson because there is so many ahead of him.
I keep Colina just because he does have a little bit of talent and offers more potential than Ryan Hanigan
