I am the only player from the All-Star ERA to win an MVP but never make an All-Star team. Who am I?

I don't remember all the MVPs since 1933. If we're permitted to look at a list of the MVPs, I could try to guess...

I don't remember all the MVPs since 1933. If we're permitted to look at a list of the MVPs, I could try to guess... I looked at them, attempted to guess, looked to confirm my guess and couldn't find one that hadn't played in at least one All Star game. Jim Konstanty was my best guess, but he appeared in one All Star game in 1950, the year he won the MVP. Unless this question is did not appear in the All-Star game the year they won the MVP.

It's Kirk Gibson. Shockingly, he never played in an All-Star game. Ever. Seriously.

Gibson's the exception that proves the rule. Apparently he was invited to join AS teams twice, AL in 1985 and NL in 1988, his MVP year, but refused the invitation both times...
