Wow, who would've thought Mike Lincoln would make this team out of spring training?
Mike Lincoln, who apparently has won a spot in Cincinnati's pen, pitched a scoreless inning Saturday to lower his ERA to 5.25. Clearly, the Reds made the right decision after all. The 32-year-old Lincoln will gain a spot despite not having pitched in the majors through 2004. His career ERA is 5.16 ERA in 263 1/3 innings, and he's given up seven runs while posting a 6/4 K/BB ratio in 12 innings this spring. He's typically had a pretty good fastball when healthy, but it's his lone major league pitch. There's no real upside here.

Hopefully just keeping Bray's seat warm.

If Lincon makes the team, i'm not gonna like it. He brings nothing to the table other guys can, young or old in the system. I'd rather call Majewski back up than keep lincon.

Majewski McBeth Coutlangus Bray Roenicke Viola Pelland

He's finished and I'd rather see Lincoln than him. The rest of the guys I'll agree with. Why is McBeth completely out of the conversation at this point? Because he was a rook last year?

When I read in the paper today that either Jim Brower or Lincoln was going to get that last spot I could help but think oh god. I just dont see either of them doing much to help this team. Those 2 just had the feeling of the old times with:
Larry Lubbers Andy Larkin Joe Mays Bruce Chen Jung Bong Sun Woo Kim Rick Krivda Scott Winchester Todd Van Popple Jose Manizinillo Brian Rieth Josh Hall Esteban Yan

I really don't understand why hes on the squad either. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me unless we are swinging a deal and hes the first one gone.

What did Lincoln do this spring or heck even his entire career to warrant him a spot on this roster?
We had guys pitch well in spring and he wasn't even one of them. I don't understand the philosophy here at all.

I don't understand the philosophy here at all. Agreed, I really don't get it. It makes even less sense when you consider that we just cut Jon Coutlangus loose. Why would we keep Lincoln over Coutlangus? Something just doesn't add up. We really can't afford any dead weight in the bullpen. We've got a potentially solid back end of the bullpen, but the other 4 are still question marks.

Exactly, Coutlangus was young and has showed signs of being good. Lincoln is old and well hasn't showed signs of being much of anything.

I was accepting of Bray being sent down, not happy, but accepting, then I found out lincoln made the team, ya....not too happy about that I would rather see someone like McBeth even over lincoln....
