Bench & Cabrera

I think with the moves today, Jolbert Cabrera has made this team. It seems obvious the following guys will make the bench;

- Freel (righty)
- Valentin (switch hitter but horrible as righty)
- Castro (righty)
- Hatteberg (lefty)

If we carry 12 pitchers to start - which is the likely scenario but not my preference - that leaves one more spot to a position player. None of the above guys fits the model of a right handed pinch hitter off the bench. For that reason and because he seems like a "Dusty guy", I think Cabrera makes this team instead of Hopper. Hopper also has an option.

........that is unless Freel gets traded in next 2 days.

Well, looks like the Reds have just said no to Cabrera.

Reds reassigned OF Jerry Hairston Jr., IF Jolbert Cabrera and RHP Jim Brower.
The Reds now have 28 healthy players on the roster. They'll trim that down to 25 by early Sunday.

oh well, not much right- handed pop coming off the bench in the late innings. Hopper doesn't usually get the ball out of the infield but he's earned the right to stick.

I'm disappointed they're going to put Ross on the DL. He seemed to be fine the last few games and base-stealers are going to have a field day with Bako and Valentin until he gets back.
