The Reds optioned Bill Bray to Louisville, re-assigned Andy Phillips to the minor league camp, and returned Jose Cappellan to the Red Sox.
I'm pretty disappointed that Bray got sent down. I was really hoping he would start the season with us. I guess that means Stanton will be on the team. God help us all.

Actually, according to Reds Insider (there's a link on the espn board) Dusty told Stanton the Reds would be releasing him.....

Yup I just checked out Lance McAlister's blog on 1530 and he said Stanton got cut also. Thats $3.5 mill for Stanton and $900,000 we owed Narron this year.
Think Big Bob wants to win this year or what?

Looks like Coffey might be getting Stantons spot and only carrying two lefties then. I can't imagine we would keep Sauerbeck or Pettyjohn.

It may be that the reds are starting the year with 11 pitchers and skipping Fogg's first start and using him as long relief until he is needed to start the next time through, at which point an extra fielder (probbably one of the 3 catchers will be released/cut/demoted/traded and Bray brought back up to go in the pen.

I would love to see us dump Stanton but why not just move him to the Phils? I didnt want Wes Helms but we could have turned around and dealt him to the Giants or just released him for a lower hit.

MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that Mike Stanton was DFA. So unless something has changed doesnt that mean we have like 10 days to trade him or just release him?
So maybe a deal is still in the works.

Nobody official has reported anything yet, unfortunately. W/ a DFA we would have time to deal for him or release him at the end of that time period. |
