Dear Walt, Just wanted to take a moment to wish you well in your new job. I know you just got the job and probably aren't overly prepared for the draft. Even so, I'm sure you know just what to do. I know you'll be getting a lot of advice and have a lot of different voices in your ear. Still, it's important to shut those voices out. You wouldn't want someone to influence your decision. (CASEY KELLY!!! CASEY KELLY!!!)Personally, I think you'll know what to do. Just follow your gut. You may not know when or how the idea was planted, but just go with it. You'll know exactly what to say when the time comes. ("With the #7 Pick, the Reds Select Casey Kelly")Anyway, just wanted to let you know that we Reds fans are a hearty bunch. We'll be there if you make the right decision or the wrong one. Anyway, best of luck on your big day. Do a job tomorrow, Walt, do a job. Sincerely and Without Any Ulterior Motives, Lark

I think Casey Kelly will be playing for Phil Fulmer in the fall at UT.

I think the millions of dollars he could get to sign with a MLB team says he won't. lol
I think he is a reach at 7. I also don't like his leverage. He could easily use his scholarship for football to get more money despite the fact 7th overall was not where he deserved to go.

The one advantage the Reds have is that they can work something out before the draft because of the relationship with his father.

It's not that we CAN'T get him signed. It's that we will have to pay above slot for a guy that didn't even deserve to go in that slot.

And, given that his father manages in the system and that he's unlikely to go higher than #7 even if he chooses to go to college, it's seems unlikely that he'd choose not to sign.

I think Casey Kelly will be playing for Phil Fulmer in the fall at UT. As a Knoxville native and resident and lifelong UT football fan (although NOT a big fan of Fulmer at all) - I hope not. We'll be just fine at QB with Crompton for 2 years.

He would use the fact that if we don't give him the money he wants, he will go play football. It's just something he can use for leverage in negotiations, and if you don't think he would because of his dad being a coach in our system then you believe in the good in people more then I do. I think he would view this as a business move and use everything to his advantage.
