Matt Maloney in his first 6 starts
2-2 7.24 ERA 1.76 WHIP 9.22 K/9 2.55 K/BB 0 Quality Starts 271/3 Total IP, 4.55 IP/Start
Matt Maloney in his last 5 starts
4-0 1.57 ERA 0.84 WHIP 6.82 K/9 3.25 K/BB 5 Quality Starts 341/3 Total IP, 6.87 IP/Start
I really want to know what happend that caused such a big shift. His K/9 are actually down, but every other stat has improved dramatically. His total stats on the year look like this:
6-2 4.09 ERA 1.25 WHIP (58 hits, 19 BB) 612/3 IP 7.88 K/9 (54 K) 2.84 K/BB 2.77 BB/9 5 quality starts 1 HR given up on the year

Look at the K/BB ratio and I think you'll see what happened. He stopped trying to strike everybody out and stopped picking around the edges.

Over time, his production regressed to the mean to match his level of performance.
