During his current 7 game hit streak he has hit:
10 for 27 (.371) 3 BB vs 6 K (.433 OBP) 2 HR 5 rbi 5 runs 2 2B 1 3B
He has really started to turn it on, and they are hitting him 5th in the order now.

Yes he did...He hurt his arm pitching as a jr
The kid is a 5 tool catcher and our future at the position. I think we see him in a reds uni in 3 years.

Oh I just wondered if it was an injury that affected his swing. He could be finally comfortable with his swing again because a long layoff like that can mess you up a little.

He played a full SR year in HS and hit something like .450 with 4 HR, and is supposed to be a 15-20 HR a year type of hitter that can hit a good .270-.280 with a great arm. I've yet to see him live, but i've heard the announcers talk about how he's got a cannon.

Did he have surgeory once upon a time? Just to fill in the gaps, he had Tommy John surgery in high school.

I think it was just his catching hand last year, but i'm not positive about that.
Mesoraco's hit streak is now at 8 games.

I think this is obviously great news, this kid's a big part of our plan for having another dominant hitter in a position that we've been lacking in for awhile. Let's hope the Reds are a bit better handling him than the O's are handling Wieters. He's been stuck in Frederick hitting for ridiculous averages. I don't want to rush Mesoraco obviously, but I'd like to see him progress through the minors at a pretty fast rate.

Mesoraco will spend the rest of this year in Low A Dayton, but hopefully he'll get to start 2009 in high A Sarasota. He'll turn 20 on June 19th.

I think that sticking the good players in Dayton for that long isn't always a good thing. It seemed like Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns, and Wily Mo Pena were the outfield for the Dragons for 2.5 years, and then spent about a half a year at other places before joining the Reds.

Dunn and Kearns did spend some time in Dayton, but they were pretty young.... They caught fire and therefore progressed quickly through the organization.

Oh yeah I know he's young, but if you dominate then you gotta move the kid up. If he keeps up Wieters like numbers then I wouldn't mind a promotion to Sarasota at the end of the year. I was just making a comparison to how the O's were handling Wieters right now and I don't agree with it.
