Lance (Livingston, TN): You said in your mock draft that the Reds have been looking at Casey Kelly for the 7th pick. Isn't this too big of a reach?
Jim Callis: I said that was a rumor that wouldn't go away, as opposed to the Reds bearing down on him. Kelly is very talented, but I think he belongs more in the 15-25 range than in the Top 10. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben (Centerville, OH): In BA's mock draft you have the Reds taking Aaron Crow. How soon could he get to the bigs, and does he project as an ace or more of a #3?
Jim Callis: Crow would be a very nice value for the Reds at No. 7. I'd call him a No. 2, he's more of a frontline guy than just a No. 3, and I don't toss "frontline guy" around casually. He could get to the bigs within a year or two of the draft. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Karl (Chicago): Any word on when Jay Bruce will get called up?
Jim Callis: Not soon enough. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Volquez Cueto Crow Thompson Smith/Lotzkar/Wood/Maloney/Jukich
In the long term, i'm liking that a lot, especially 1-4

lol, "not soon enough"
I had a good laugh at that.
Duke, I'm still sold on Cueto being the ace of the future, even if Volquez does continue.

I'm not ready to give up on mesoraco just yet (he was a first round pick). Hopefully he can make to the majors in 3-4 years in the mean time bako/FA can work as a stop gap. To give up a future 3 or 4 type starter (bailey) for a catcher we will only use for a year or two doesn't make sense. The only young/high upside/ready now catchers on the trading block right now are clement and salty. If a griffey for clement deal was possible, it would have been done by now, so it seems like getting a clement or salty is going to require giving up a lot of propects. I say we keep the propects we have and use bako or a FA until mesoraco is ready.

I'd do Griffey and Bailey for Clement, Feirenbrand, and Saunders from Seattle if it was appeasable for the Mariners. Then when Clement starts to get expensive we have Mesoraco in the wings, or if Mesoraco doesn't turn out, sign Clement long term.
Mesoraco does seem to be warming up though. a 2B, 3B, and HR in his last 3 games, and last night he had a 2B and 2 BB with 0 K.

He is still a prospect as well and hasn't done anything at the pro level to warrant changing that.
