Through 5 innings Bruce is 2 for 2 with 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 BB, 2 rbi, and 1 run. He is now hitting .361 and the 2 walks will help the old OBP. Playstation numbers.
Andy Phillips is also 2 for 2 with 2 2B, 2 rbi, and 1 run. he is hitting .330 and looks to be the backup 1B if we can trade Hatte.

Bruce just hit a solo shot in the 7th.
3 for 3 1 2B 1 3B 1 HR 2 BB 3 rbi 2 runs
The announcers said the double he hit hit the wall on the fly and couldn't have ever been more than about 15 feet off the ground. Oh, and it was opposit field, as was his HR. Bruce is now hitting .366 with a .404 OBP, and if he can get up to bat one more time a single would give him the cycle.

Chattanoogas game got moved up so they are done. I went to listen and saw a complete box score.
-Ben Jukich pitches a complete game giving up 2 runs, 6 hits, 1 walk, and 5 Ks
-Chris Valaika goes 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 rbi
-Shaun Cumberland went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and was hit by a pitch
-Tonys Gutierez went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 2 rbi, and a sac fly. He is hitting .342 and should get the call to play 1B in AAA once Hatte is traded and Andy Phillips gets to the bgis to back up Votto.

Recap of AAA game:
-Justin Lehr goes 6 giving up 1 run on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 2 Ks. he is 4-2 with a 2.41 ERA.
-Jay Bruce finished 3 for 3 with 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 2 BB, 2 runs, and 3 rbi. He is hitting .366 with an OBP of .404, 8 HR, 9 2B, 5 3B, 7 SB, and his OPS is now 1.060
-Andy Phillips went 2 for 3 with 2 2B, 1 BB, 1 run, and 2 rbi. He is hitting .327 and is right handed meaning he would be a suitable backup to Votto at 1B.

Hearing about what these guys are doing in the minors is really making the well under .500 record seem not that bad....
Good times are ahead.

2010-2014 the Reds should be one of the best teams in baseball. Past that is too far ahead to project.
Young talent: Jay Bruce Joe Votto Todd Frazier Drew Stubbs Chris Valaika Juan Francisco Devin Mesoraco Johnny Cueto Edinson Volquez Homer Bailey Daryl Thompson Jordan Smith Josh Roencike Carlos Fisher Ramon Geronimo Dan Herrera #7 pick in the 2008 draft Possible high pick in the 2009 draft Juan Duran
2nd teir which could produce a few suprises Justin Turner Brandon Waring Keltavious Jones Shaun Cumberland Tonys Gutierez Dan Dorn Chris Heisey Sean Henry Craig Tatum Mike Griffin Adam Rosales Pedro Viola Tyler Pelland Ramon Ramierez Marcus McBeth
The Reds have the 3rd rated farm system in all of baseball for a reason. Even after Bruce and Bailey graduate, I think Stubbs, Frazier, Thompson, Smith, possibly Mesoraco, and the #7 pick could all be top 100 prospects.

And that's what's so reassuring. Coming into the season there was a thought that we have this one wave and then a few years before the second wave came through, but I don't think that's the case anymore. I think we just have an all-around solid farm system right now.
I wonder if there is any position that we could bring Kriv back for. I think he did a good job for the most part for this team. He didn't win now, but he has helped build something that could make us winners for more than just 1 or 2 years.

Krivski had very little to do with international scouting, and almost nothing to do with the draft. The Juan Duran loophole wasn't even his find, that was one of the assitant scouting directors.

But some of Krivsky's work really gives us young pieces to go along with the guys that you listed. Phillips, Volquez, Hamilton before him, Keppinger. Great finds. He made a couple of mistakes, but if you take him out of the GM seat you don't have to worry about the bad contracts that he gave out. Then again, maybe it's unnecessary. If Casty bumps the payroll a bit and Jocketty just does his job, we'll win. They've both been there before.

The very biggest thing the Reds need to do, moreso than bumping payroll, is pouring money into the draft and international scouting. That is the only way they are going to sustain success over a long period of time.
It would be great if the Reds can get to the point to where they rarely go to FA as they let some players walk for picks, and then resign their best players early so they can get a bit of a discount and get the best long term while still having the minor league pipeline to keep the team stocked. Done properly, this team could be like the Braves of the 90's with a few estabished stars and constant up and comers from the minors to restock.
