Question for the board minor league gurus.
Should we be worried that Devin Mesoraco will be 20 on 6/16/2008 and evidently still won't be ready for low A-ball? In addition to being a year older than most high school draft picks, he missed a season in high school due to Tommy John surgery, which reduces his total experience.
How far behind, if at all, is he in terms of development? How much, if at all, does him being older coming out of high school cut against him? As a catcher, he's got a lot more to learn than most prospects, so his development time will already be longer.
Were the Reds afraid to roll him out at the low-A level because he wasn't ready from a developmental point of view? Or, perhaps does he have lingering injuries?

Mesoraco was called up to Dayton today. Every Scouting service had him as a top 10-20 prospect and they all knew about his age and surgery, so i'm not worried. Give him a chance, his thumvs are 100% now, unlike last year.
