I've always loved Szymanski's athleticism, so I'm hoping that it really is beginning to translate into baseball success. He's another football player, so while I'm skeptical, he could just be a late bloomer. Wasn't he another one who benefited from the order to choke up on the bat? He certainly finished strong in his 23 PA in AA last year, so maybe things have started to click. That would be awesome, as I think he's got a bit of electricity to his skill set. Or, maybe we are just getting too excited by small sample sizes.

web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2008_04_09_ftwafx_dayafx_1Dear lord Frazier and Wearing are flat hitting in dayton. The good news is Both Valiaka and Fransico are hitting in Sarasota so I could see both groups of players moving up quite soon. We all knew Frazier was going to hit but this start might be a sign he has superstar ability. As for Waring the K's worry me but he is still a run producer and he is hitting like .458 now ! Valiaka who hit well in dayton then struggled some i Sarasota late last year is back to his old self. I know some think Valakia might be a utility type but only because we arleady have Phillips at 2b(Chris's future position IMO) but if he hits well we could package him in a deal later for soemthing of value and then he gets a shot at starting somewhere.

Star, do you remember if Szymanski was ordered to choke up last year and if so did it have any impact on him?
I thought he benefited from it, but I could be misremembering.

yes he was one fo the players ordered to choke up and it did help him. So far this year he looks like a diffrent player !
I dont think Waring chokes up as he takes a HUGE swing...lol Maybe he is next but as long as he keeps hitting they might live with the K's

Waring is essentially the new Dunn, except probably a better hitter for average. I think his OBP skills will improve throughout the levels and he'll eventually be moved to 1B or LF. Waring is a better defender than Dunn though at any position. I just think with his 6'4" frame and decent atleticsim that he'd be a natural fit at 1B. If he contnues with the big time power and produces runs, then the K's are certainly allowable. I said before this year, that by the time the year is done that Frazier will be a top 25 prospect. The way he looks right now, he might be a top 10 prospect
