Right, it would be very difficult for the team that traded him away at a massive discount due to domestic violence allegations to turn around ~8 years later and welcome him back. Well, at least it would be difficult in a world where corporations and society care about such things. They didn’t trade him away because of domestic violence allegations, the massive discount yes but not the allegations. The Yankees did their diligence and they knew the allegations were all bull Fecal Matter. Then they bent the reds over, with the garbage that the reds got back they should have kept him until the deadline. But whatever, a different time. The allegations were bull and yet he served a 30 game suspension in which he didn't appeal?

If you mean that they were planning to trade him away because of financial consideration, but the domestic violence allegations merely sped up the timeline, then that may be the case. I can't remember those fine details. But, they definitely moved him when they moved him because of the allegations. They took a trade offer that returned a bundle of quantity, instead of quality, none of which panned out. The Yankees took on Aroldis and the flak that came with it, then flipped him for a far more valuable return a handful of months later: Gleyber Torres.

The story was his girlfriend flew into a rage, he never hit her, he went to his garage and shot his gun into the wall of the garage. If you have ever been there that takes restraint not smacking her. His friends and girlfriend confirmed that to the police. That’s why he wasn’t charged or suspended longer.

It means the Reds were trading Chapman regardless of any domestic violence charges. Take a look back at this boards archives and refresh your memory. The season before the Yankees were gonna trade Aaron Judge for Chapman at the deadline and uncle bob nixed it. The next offseason the Dodgers had basically had a deal in place in a package that included Cody Bellenger. Later that day the allegations came out and the dodgers pulled the offer.
