I am not interested in Barlow. But Chapman can be used at his price tag depending on what Royals want.

We shouldn't give up anything for a reliever right now. If we are trading for something it should be for a Starting Pitcher. Chapman will not help us win games when the back end of our rotation has 6.00+ ERAs.

I don't want to see us give up anything in our farm system. Lets be patient... and not ruin what we have started here.

But other than Diaz and maybe Sims, is there anyone in this current bullpen you really trust? I think there's some AAAA type guys like Farmer and Giabut who are punching way above their weight currently and are due for regression to the mean. If you squint, you could say that this team, with Votto as a bat off the bench/clubhouse leader, Lodolo back, Senzel back and productive, CES called up and raking, plus Chapman and Barlow in the bullpen, could win the Central. and you'd have the same group back next year, plus Votto's contract off the books which presumably enables you to go after a FA starter or two.

If Chapman and Barlow are as big a difference maker as you believe they are, their current team wouldn't be 18-50. Chapman is on a one year deal, we wouldn't have control over him past that. Plus he probably only has another 30 innings left in him this year. He is at 23 innings and he hasn't gone over 60 innings since 2015.

We have one left handed bullpen arm. We need another lefty. However, with that said, you are not paying a kings ransom for Chapman. You are giving up maybe your organizations top 20-30 prospect or two. I mean we had to call up Karcher to pitch, a guy in AAA with a 9+ ERA and more walks than strikeouts. Hell he almost gave Brantley a heart attack in his major league debut and caused the Cowboy to start drinking. It was like a scene right out of major league where Bob Ucher is talking about Ricky Vaughn.
If that is the best we have to call up from our system, we are in trouble.
I agree, we need at least another starting pitcher who is going to stay healthy and give us good innings, but you have to be careful it doesn't include any of our young prospects on the team currently, or CES, Marte, Collier, Arroyo or Petty. If you get a couple years out of the starter and is decently priced, I can see us giving up Petty or possibly Arroyo depending on the quality of the pitcher.
Dylan Cease or Lucas Giolito from Chicago would be interesting ideas. Cease will be around for another 2 years, Giolito is a free agent at the end of this year.

I don't think we are, or should be, buyers this year. Or, at least, not buying rental players. If we can add someone who will help us now and in future seasons, then it makes more sense. I don't see Aroldis as fitting the bill for us; also, given how he left the organization, it's tough to imagine a reunion with him.

Due to the weakness of this division You should absolutely be in on Adolfo’s Chapman. You have 1 guy I really trust. While I love what Buck Farmer, Sims, Gibault, have done so far, not sure I trust them completely in October. And Young is the only lefty out there, Chapman would be a fantastic edition for a 7th,8th inning guy. I’d give Austin Hendrick for him in a New York second, probably not enough but another 20th-30th prospect should get it done. No real hurt to our future and an above average lefty in return.

The Reds have carefully built a brand new team culture. I don't think a guy who has been suspended for domestic abuse or used to drive around the banks in his Lambo while his team was playing belongs in our bullpen.

Maybe you're right, but...everyone has a past. Maybe he's changed.

Right, it would be very difficult for the team that traded him away at a massive discount due to domestic violence allegations to turn around ~8 years later and welcome him back. Well, at least it would be difficult in a world where corporations and society care about such things.

They didn’t trade him away because of domestic violence allegations, the massive discount yes but not the allegations. The Yankees did their diligence and they knew the allegations were all bull Fecal Matter. Then they bent the reds over, with the garbage that the reds got back they should have kept him until the deadline. But whatever, a different time.
