Joey Votto said on Wednesday in a radio interview with 700-WLW in Cincinnati that his left shoulder isn't fully recovered yet from August surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.
It's been nearly five months since the procedure, and Votto has posted videos this offseason to social media of him taking swings in a batting cage. However, he's indicated that there's some uncertainty whether he'll be ready for the start of the 2023 season. The Reds signed Wil Myers earlier this offseason, which gives them some additional first base depth in the event that Votto isn't ready to go. The 39-year-old slugger was limited to just 91 contests last year due to injury. There should be some clarity on his status one he reports to spring training in a few weeks.
