Dude has easy power. Doesn't even look like he is swinging that hard and that ball just jumps off his bat. Kids forearms are massive.
A lot of guys that hit it as far as him their swings just look violent at the point of impact. Fairchild looks like he is just hitting off a tee with his swing, like he is practicing contact.

I was unimpressed the first few times I saw him, possibly thrown off by his youthful appearance. There was some on-field moment that reoriented my impression, that there is a tough player in there. He has an athletic kind of swing, loose and springy and when the timing is good, like you said, the ball jumps off his bat.
Inspecting his numbers in the minors, his slugging was better than I thought, but the numbers don't scream power bat. His highlight reel proves it could be in there, at least enough for the short side of the platoon. To be a major league starter, the power tool would have to stick and be plus. I think he generates more power than Fraley or Friedl, who do well with their limited size. He should be average in the other tools.
The guy has bounced around so much and with the covid year and injuries, his status as prospect faded but not for any real specific charge. He only had 26 (albeit poor) AB's in the majors before coming to the Reds. He seems to have risen to level changes in the past and could be a factor in his age 27-29 seasons.

The Reds might be wasting an opportunity not giving Fairchild more playing time. There's not much data to go on but I think I would pencil him in for a while, and not just on platoon. It's not that I think Myers is bad but you have to come to terms with his ACTUAL ceiling at 32. He will be a 2 WAR guy at best. Fairchild is in his age-27 season and has flashed a little bit, and also hasn't been bad against righties in the small sample size. No more starts for Benson, work Myers into the dh rotation, all this at least until Senzel is back. Even then, let the guy play, I mean they drafted him, brought him back, he's put up .9 bWAR or 1 fWAR in 113 plate appearances. His power should play up in the warm months as much as Myers.

He was supposed to have my back after I vouched for him, but he pretty much sucked. Somehow managing positive fWAR but not hitting the ball hard (hard hit rate only 24%), k rate creeping up, not barreling anything in the air. Looking like the 5th/6th outfielder that he has been. He has been more productive than Myers, Ramos, Vosler, Benson, but that isn't saying much. Friedl is really missed. Everyone else (on offense) adds up to .6 WAR. Ouch.
Easy to see why everyone's getting anxious for more call-ups, it's been more fun to watch Bats highlights than the Reds.
