We all know Kyle Farmer isn't the 1.000 OPS guy he has been in July (about 1.1 WAR) but do you think there could be a 2 WAR player in there? Will his hot streak have any effect on the team's trade discussions? It would have been laughable to even suggest not upgrading from Farmer at the end of June. The one thing that I think has happened is he has gained some trade value this month (as a true utility guy for NL contenders).

He’s a non tender candidate, no trade value.

He’s a non tender candidate, no trade value. Complete utter nonsense. I’m not a huge Farmer fan but that comment sounds like a grumpy old man said it.

Farmer was utter crap for the first 3 months of the year. Why does hearing that making you upset? He literally hit .213 - .282 - .310 through the first 3 months. That is bloody horrible. Had he continued that he would most defintely have been a non-tender candidate...which for the record he was non-tendered last winter - just as I said.

3 weeks of the year with a .500 BABip doesn't erase those three months.

It doesn’t upset me,but there is enough retarded things said on this board, I expect better from you. In no way shape or form am I saying he should be a starter for a competing club, but if Kyle Farmer is your 23rd 24th man you have a nice team. He is an above average defender plays multiple positions including catcher has a little pop in his bat. Non tendered to me is a guy who should not be on a major league roster and Kyle Farmer is an ok player. Better than a AAAA player for sure.

He’s a 31 year old non starter who had a sub .600 OPS in 3 months of starting. Nothing I said was nonsensical, the reds nontendered him last winter and until his hot steak this past month he was on the path of being nontendered again.

Just because the reds are cheap does not mean Farmer does not have value to the big league club. Technically you are correct, Farmer was a non tendered player last year, and his hot month aside where he has the highest average in baseball by any player in all of baseball since the all star break, I feel that he has shown enough that he will be back with the reds next year in some capacity. I feel that it would be a mistake not to bring him back, I also think if the reds do non tender him some team will snipe him. I also feel that Heath Hembree should be a check out clerk at my local 7-11 so I am smart enough to know the reds don’t give a Fecal Matter what I feel.

With this bullpen you can forget about a wild card spot and for sure they won’t catch the Brewers.

In his last 161 games, Farmer has put up 3.1 fWAR. In other words, about right in the middle of the pack of SS. He was probably underrated a bit at the trade deadline, especially if his 2nd half this year ends up like 2021 (1.8 fWAR). He could have a good arbitration case if he does, and knowing the Reds, that would make them think about moving him in the offseason. With Steer, De La Cruz, Encarnacion-Strand and Barrero, it is a tough decision as I don't see trade offers being that impressive for a 32/33 year old infielder. So I'm leaning towards keeping him in 2023 with his position versatility being the deciding factor.

Votto is down for the rest of the season. Thank goodness. Now the Reds can do some experimenting.
Move Farmenr to first and Lopez to third. Put Solano in the DH slot. Place Moustakas on the 60 day DL and have him sit the rest of the year. Drop Strickland and Aquino. Neither one of them knows what they are doing. I know Aquino has a great arm.
