The Cincinnati native, Jimmy Wynn died yesterday at 78. Nicknamed the Toy Cannon, he was drafted away from the Reds in the expansion draft by the Houston Colt 45's. Only 5' 9" he was a power hitter and the face of the early franchise. His number 24 was retired a few years ago.

The late fifties early sixties were loaded with talent.
A lot of great Reds minor leaguers went out to tremendous careers with other teams. Although Wynn never helped the Reds directly, indirectly his feud with the Astros GM Spec Richardson may have been one of the contributing factors to the Morgan-for-May trade.
Wynn was lost in Rule V, not the expansion draft.
