Thats a great point lark. The fact is he is just learning the game ! Yeah, if memory serves, he had a football scholarship to Alabama(?), but turned it down to play pro baseball. I'm hoping someone in our farm system can teach him how to use his speed and get on base.

He's k'ed quite a bit these first few games, but he should be focusinng on working counts, getting walks, and spraying hits to all fields. That and bunting. It's be nice if we could get some burners in our system to learn prototypical leadoff skills.

Another player who pitch yesterday was Danny Herrera 1.2IP 0H 1BB 2SO 0ER for Chattanooga.
2nd time he pitch this year 2.2IP 2H 1BB 3SO 0ER - 1.50 GO/FO
If you don't remember Herrera was part of the Hamilton trade.
I been trying to follow him this year and see how he does.
His stats last year in the minors were: 7-2 3.69ERA 41G/1GS 63.1IP 4HR 25BB 75SO 1.84 GO/FO
Star, Lark, Duke...Do you guys know anything about him?? His stats are not that bad.

I'd be amazed if the Reds give him a legitimate shot. He's got a low 80s fastball and relies heavily on a good screwball. Carlos Guevara was a similar pitcher and the Reds never gave him shot and ultimately left him unprotected in the Rule V draft. Herrera gets the job done, but lacks traditional stuff.

Thanks for the info Lark! Well, I'm hopeful that the Reds give him a shot, but it's very odd that they thought so little of Guevara and then acquired such a similar pitcher. The only difference is the arm with which they throw. Still, Herrara has had sustained success in very good hitter's ballparks, so he may be a good option for GABP. It'll be interesting to see if the Reds give him a legitimate look, but past history suggests they won't.

With the suprisinng abundance of power arms the Reds seem to have now, maybe he can find a home as a nitch pitcher. Not holding my breath, i'd like to see at least a high 80's fastball on an offspeed pitcher.
