After watching many games this season I thought that 3b and SS were very weak defensively for the Reds. So I checked. I was right. Suarez is the next to worst 3bman in all of major league baseball. Low fielding percentage, and low range factor. He also like to play the field like a bullfighter. Doesn't get in front of balls. Never dives for balls. The same is true of Pedraza. Pedraza should have leveled Bader last Sunday when he came in high to second on a force out. There should have been a fight at that point.
Any way Should the reds consider moving Suarez to left field next year since he is such a terrible 3B. Senzel is supposed to be ready although we never know what his next infirmity will be. Maybe he will get a zit on his face and have to sit out a month. Then the Reds could move an outfielder and get a good pitcher in return.

Either Suarez or Votto needs to be traded for pitching, and the other one should play first base.

Neither are going anywhere.
Votto can block a trade to almost anywhere, and given his salary won't get you much in return.
Suarez was signed to a contract extension that is very Reds-friendly -- yes, he could be traded, but I wouldn't trade him for anything less than a top 20 propsect, and two others in the top 100... Not a price most teams would pay.

I think you're being overly harsh on Suarez's defensive abilities. I would say he's closer to average or a touch below. He hasn't been playing third base all that long, so there's still room for improvement. Further, I no longer know how much stock to put in defensive metrics, as the constant shifting/positioning undoubtedly skews results. The Reds have a lot of problems, I just don't think Suarez's defensive abilities are necessarily one of them.

I honestly think he'll rededicate himself to the position in the Spring and have a bounceback yr defensively in 2019. He's conscientious and a hard worker. I'm sure he knows he's can play better and will. This isn't Willie Greene

suarez got no time for improving defensive skills, he's too busy frosting the tips and taking selfies.

You know the fanbase is salty when we're complaining about Suarez.

Maybe he spent most of his time working on his hitting. That has payed off. He keeps getting better every year. He strikes me as a guy who wants to be good all around. I to expect to see him bounce back at 3b next year.

Sounds like Senzel is going to get some time in Left Field this spring. So it appears that the Reds are content with the left side of the infield.

If next year's outfield is Senzel (LF), Schebler (CF), and Winker (RF), and the infield remains Votto/Gennett/Peraza/Suarez, we will almost undoubtedly be the worse defensive team in baseball. We'll also score a lot of runs. Just seems like a bad combination, though, with an already awful rotation.

Votto .288 12HR 68RBI-----Sad Music I said at the time and I'll say now, it was an enormous and unnecessary risk to sign him to such a long term deal. I don't want to hear Cast bitching about payroll in 2020-23. It was his call and it's his money
