Great home run hitter. Big series in 70 against the Orioles. If it had not been for brooks the Reds would have probably won and May would have been the MVP. The most famous of Brook's fielding gems came against May.He hit one home run over the scoreboard at old Crosley field. (not an easy thing to do.

One of my favorites in the early days of the BRM. Monster hitter and pretty decent defensive first baseman. Perez, Bench, and he made up the "Murderer's Row" of the early BRM days.
I was actually among the vast majority who were disappointed when the Reds traded him to the Astros in the Joe Morgan. That ended up being a bad deal for the Astros not because Lee May didn't peform for them, he did just fine for the Astros and later for the Orioles (when the Astros in another bad deal sent him to Baltimore for Enos Cabell), but just that Joe Morgan was so much better, plus the Reds got a gold glove outfielder in Geronimo, and solid starter in Billingham, and a very good defensive 3B (at least in 1972 & 1973) in Menke. And Menke was a much better defensive 3B than Tony Perez (who could then move to first).
I was also disappointed to see so little of Lee May in the 1979 World Series - where because there was no DH, he just had a couple of pinch hitting appearances for the Orioles.
