...has struck out 13 of the 15 batters he has faced this season. No walks, of course. Let that sink in for a moment. Even in a small sample size, that's absolutely ridiculous.

24 year old in A ball with mid to high 90's gas and a solid slider. They tried him as a starter, but the stuff definitely plays up in the pen. He'll be in Pensacola soon.

Looking forward to seeing how he fares in AA, whenever it happens. The jump from A+ to AA is considered the biggest in all of the minors.

Also worth mentioning is Jimmy Herget's start in AA. In 5 appearances he has 6 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 13 K and has converted all 5 appearances into saves.

Didn't some publication recently rank Herget extremely high in our organization? I wonder what our reliever rankings would be of there were such a thing. I know Zach Weiss was always thought of as a future bullpen stalwart but seems like Rainey and Herget are both more highly thought of that Weiss ever was.

Another guy catching my eye is Ryan Olson.

Another guy catching my eye is Ryan Olson. A very nice start, but he is a 22 year old in Low A ball. I haven't seen him pitch yet, so I can't speak to the stuff, but command and control guys can typically dominate in the MWL against undisciplined hitters. Olson's college walk rate was pretty good his last two years at Cal Poly Pomona (his last year was abbreviated with a back issue, he only made 5 starts) after being a bit high his freshman year at San Diego. A fun fact looking at his stats is that in 153 IP in college and as a pro now he has only given up 1 HR. I haven't found any notes from his stuff in college, but here was a scouting report of Olson coming out of high school. . He's listed as 15 pounds heavier now and just with natural maturity I'd expect that fastball to tick up a bit. I'd hazard a guess he's a 91-93 fastball guy, maybe touching a little higher occasionally. Sounds like a fastball, slider, changeup guy. Defintely bears watching. I'm going to the Dragons game tonight, but Olson isn't on the mound. I do get to see Scott Moss though, whom I am excited to see.

Wasn't Tanner Rainey once a SS prospect for us?

Wasn't Tanner Rainey once a SS prospect for us? You're thinking of Tanner Rahier who was drafted as a SS, moved to 3B, and accurately throws rocks at women. Rainey was a college reliever who we tried as a starter. That didn't take whatsoever, but since we moved him back into the bullpen towards the end of last season he has been dominant. 2 pitch pitcher with fastball/slider and both play up in shorter stints. He's hit 99 on the gun.
