Was looking through the box score today and I saw Renda's name. He wasn't even on the forty man roster yesterday I don't think. What is up with that. he began the season at AA. Only 5' 8''

Renda has now pinch hit in three consecutive games since being added.
Yep, he's short, and he began the season in AA. He's largely Jose Peraza's pinch hitting/bunting/pinch running replacement.
Renda did pretty well in the minors, between AA and AAA, hitting .315 with a .363 OBP, with 20 BB, 33 K, and 17 SB in 375 plate appearances. He's not going to hit for power but he should make contact, and so far he's done that. He was asked to bunt in his debut and got it down - well enough that he reached on a throwing error, on what should've been a sacrifice.
He won't wow you, looking like a contact-hitting utility player, but it's nice to see him called up - I think he deserved it as much as anyone. I'm much happier seeing him, at age 25, sitting on the Reds' bench than SS Jose Peraza. Renda will probably get serious consideration for a bench spot next spring.

sometimes all you need to do is to do the simple stuff and he has done that.....if thats the case he will be a great asset off the bench and as a utility fielder...

m.mlb.com/cin/video/topic/17391128/v1001708783/stlcin-renda-makes-mlb-debut-with-redsOfficial scorer actually apparently changed the play back from a sacrifice and reached-on-error to a bunt single for Tony Renda in his first plate appearance. I saw it live and felt it should've been a hit, and had scored it accordingly. Before erasing later... Well placed bunt, infielder forced to make a rushed throw because of Renda's speed and the good location... expecting a fielder to make that play is asking a lot. If it were some big slow guy on the bases sure, they could expect the out, but not for a baserunner with decent speed. I doubt a good throw would've gotten Renda. Frankly I was surprised that the fielder tried to throw it, and though it was a bad - albeit split section decision - to try. The original decision made it seem like Renda was the lucky one on the play, but I think Adams was the lucky one, that he didn't throw the ball further out of the reach of the guy covering first - his wild throw hit the grass in front of 1b, rather than flying over.

Actually, I can see him replacing Suarez at third.

Renda has only started 9 games at 3b in his professional career, 1 fewer than he's played at SS. He's mostly been used at 2b and LF, which doesn't imply to me that his arm screams 3b.
