I usually don't pay that much attention to the lower minors so I hadn't seen this kid's stats. He also is not one of the Reds' top prospects. He had a pretty good year at Dayton for a catcher. Batted .293 and threw out 50% of basestealers. Does anyone know anything about him? I know he is only 20 years old. Is he a sleeper for next year?

That BA is from like 20 games, he was Dayton's backup to Boulware once they released Jose Ortiz. You should consider him org filler until he's starting regularly.

Minor league catchers worth keeping your eye on are Tyler Stephenson, Jake Turnbull (17 year old signed out of Australia), and probably Chad Wallach. Everyone else is filler, in my opinion.

I would not throw away Chad Tromp. A 20 year old catcher who threw out 10/21 base stealers (48%) and only allowed 2 passed balls in 202 innings (that's really good for his age) and was above average at the plate while being one of the younger players in the league shouldn't be discounted, even in a 24 games sample size. Also, do you count Shed Long as a catcher? He played second base this year after spending the previous two seasons as a catcher, and he was the youngest player on the roster (turned 20 2-3 weeks ago) before Ty Boyles showed up, but unlike Boyles, he played well. .283/.363/.474 in 173 plate appearances (in a pitcher's league nonetheless, 144 wRC+), and he just dominated late in the season. 173 plate appearances is probably not enough for him to get promoted to Daytona next summer, but it is enough that it's probably not a small sample size fluke. And unlike Aristedes Aquino, he doesn't have bad K/BB numbers that suggest it was a bit fluky; both numbers were adequate in the past and pretty good this season.

Wallach is filler - he's a future fulltime 1Bman who lacks premium power not unlike Mejias.
