I expect Shore to be a first team AA next year as a junior. Last year he was a stud (national freshman of the year). Never a bad night. Walked almost nobody. Pitched brilliantly without feeling like he needed to strike everybody out. This year, frankly, he has been a little disappointing. He struggled with health a little early this year and his record reflects the fact that he matches us weekly with SEC #1 starters like Carson Fullmer and Kyle Cody. He's had 2 or 3 bad outings which is surprising. AJ Puk is the talent. He'll be a first rounder next year no matter what he does on the field, a candidate for 1-1 if he gains any consistency. Puk is a 7 inning shutout or 2 innings with 6 ER kind of guy. Shore was supposed to be the bedrock. He seems to be rounding into form now, though. He's cruising through Auburn with a big lead right now. We need him to be the Shore of last year if we are going to make a run at the national title.
He has good size (listed at 6'2" 215) and he's a very smart pitcher. Throws low 90s and has a good mix. He's Maddox-esque in his approach, not that he is that quality of course. He's a definite starter, but he's not a ridiculous talent. If he pitches next season like he did last season, my guess is late first round to second.
Damn. Just watched a large chunk of the Florida/Arkansas game. You weren't kidding. Puk looks like a freakin' stud. I could definitely see him at 1.1 in next year's draft if he pitches anything like that next year. Of course, there's a long time between then and now. Still, very good stuff and he located the fastball very well in the zone. Mechanics seem really clean, too.
He's got a bit of Chris Sale/Andrew Miller in him. Just keep him away from construction sites.
I'm impressed. I want one in Cincy.
