Whether any of them come through to the MLB level will be seen in the future, but Nick Howard, Wyatt Strahan and Lorenzen are off to nice starts this season and have promise for guys who aren't ranked highly on the Baseball America lists. Out of that list of 50 though I must say the bottom 25 are almost all complete garbage. To think that Holmberg, Skipworth and Juan Duran are in the top 50 is pretty freaking pathetic.Others are valued for an advanced approach, perhaps eventually being MLB contributors by getting the most out of limited skills. Holmberg is certainly one of those, as are guys on the list like Jon Moscot, perhaps Barnhart, and Seth Mejias-Brean. In my opinion Sam LeCure and Ryan Hanigan were those kinda guys coming up. Maybe they don't belong on a top 10 prospect list, but top 50? There's no shame in that at all.
The bottom 25 are complete garbage? Disagree, many of them are young 2013 or 2014 draft picks, or interesting for other reasons. They could become valuable, even though they might not be already. The minors are about player development, and many of them have plenty of room to develop.
#25 Wallach - lets see how he hits
#26 Holmberg - he knew how to pitch, maybe he can remember, potentially useful as a 6th starter
#27 Sampson - a top candidate to be the next Alfredo Simon, if he can just throw strikes. Big if.
#28 Armstrong - 20 year old 3rd round pick from 2013, so far impressive through 12 innings at Dayton
#30 Stephens - 20 year old, problems with injuries. If he can stay healthy he could move up a list.
#39 Daniel Wright - 24, drafted 2013, excellent control in his first full season with 22 BBs in 152.1 IPs.
#40 Tejay Antone - 21, drafted last year, supposedly hits 95mph, new to A ball. The beginning of his career seems too early to write him off.
#41 Weiss - 23, great numbers out of the bullpen in A and now A+, hopefully will be promoted to AA, could be a bullpen arm...
#42 Chacin - 21, another interesting albeit unproven above A ball bullpen arm.
#43 Magill - 25, likely now a bullpen arm after spending most of his career as a starter. We'll probably see what he has later this season...
#44 Astin - 23, acquired for Broxton, I think the jury is still out... #44 seems appropriate, but 'garbage' seems premature.
Another prospect who I'd have on the top 50 list is Brian O'Grady, a 22 year old who was drafted last year and is now at Dayton. He plays the odd combination of CF, 3b, and 1b, and knows how to take walks. He's also 11-0 in stolen base attempts in his short professional career. I guess he has benefited from an advanced approach coming out of college, and the odds may be against him, but he seems interesting.
