"Votto participated without limitations" IT'S BASEBALL FOR GODS SAKE! THEY AREN'T RUNNING A DECATHALON! HE'S FIELDING GROUNDERS AND MOVING AT HALF SPEED! HE PLAYS FIRST BASE! HE BARELY HAS TO MOVE AT ALL! Good freaking gravy. This is what we've come to? Really? REALLY?! I'm gonna have a god damned coronary. Reading crap like that really pisses me off. Our beat writers obviously have a flair for controversy...

And you wonder how the "kramer1" handle became so infamous??? It pisses me off to hear this about any player....especially in freaking baseball. The guys barely have to move. They're treated like babies. They're paid millions of dollars. Oh, so and so was able to "move around well." STOP THE PRESSES! VOTTO WAS ABLE TO MOVE! HE WASN'T BOTHERED TOO MUCH TO MOVE FOR HIS QUARTER OF A BILLION DOLLARS! Makes me absolutely sick. Just how long have you been working for the Reds medical staff?

If I don't then my bills don't get paid. It's absolute insanity to be talking about baseball players being able to "work."

Reds' Homer Bailey Feels Good after First Bullpen C. Trent Rosecrans, Enquirer, 2/27/2015
GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Reds right-hander Homer Bailey joked that it was all "sunshine and rainbows" after his 20-pitch bullpen session on Friday, but all jocularity aside, it was a big day for Bailey after coming off September forearm surgery.
"I've been looking forward to it, really," Bailey said. "Even in the offseason, playing catch and stuff, you see guys throw bullpens and in your mind, you think you can still do it. Getting out of a brace the first time, you think you can walk on the mound and throw, and that's not necessarily the case. It was kind of really rewarding, it felt really good."
Bailey threw 20 pitches under the supervision of manager Bryan Price, general manager Walt Jocketty, pitching coach Jeff Pico, head trainer Paul Lessard and much of the Reds' front office.
While Bailey had thrown, Friday was the first time off the mound. He underwent surgery to repair a torn flexor mass in his right forearm on Sept. 5, ending a disappointing 2014 season for him and the team.
Price has said the team isn't counting on Bailey to be ready for Opening Day, or even the first two series, but it is still early enough in spring that Bailey — if all stays on schedule — will pitch in games during spring training. Johnny Cueto is scheduled to pitch Opening Day against the Pirates on April 6, with Mike Leake slotted for the season's second game on April 8.
"I would say probably about 95 percent of our pitchers have thrown off the mound before coming to Goodyear," Price said. "Some veteran guys know how to get their arm in shape and may initiate their mound stuff when they get to spring training. Homer on average is four bullpens deep when he gets to spring training.
"That kind of tells you where he is. He's behind the others. We'll see how it goes. We'll probably have a minimum of four bullpens, maybe five before he gets to live batting practice and then we'll re-assess."
Price added: "We will not rush him back. I don't think we're expecting him for Opening Day."
Although it was just 20 pitches, Bailey said he felt good throwing — even though he put one pitch in the dirt and loudly exclaimed his displeasure.
"There were a few of them that came out really good, I'm not going to say that I 100 percent got after it, especially the first time," Bailey said. "I just kind of have to ease into it. Everything was pretty free and easy, and everyone else thought it looked good and to me it felt all right. It's one step at a time, cross that one off the board."
The next bullpen will be the biggest test, he said.
"One time off the mound, let's see how it bounces back after maybe the third or fourth time off the bullpen, we'll have a better idea of where we're at — as the numbers start adding up," Bailey said.

Reds have three televised games this week:
Tuesday, March 3rd: Reds vs Cleveland, MLBNetwork (delay), delayed until (at least) 4pm. -Jason Marquis
Wednesday, March 4th: Reds @ Cleveland, FSN-OH (live) at 3:05, MLBNetwork (delay), delayed until (at least) 4pm. -Anthony DeSclafani
Thursday, March 5: Reds vs Cleveland, FSN-OH (live) at 3:05, also listed as MLBNetwork (delay) but not scheduled for broadcast until 6am the next morning. -Johnny Cueto
March 6: Cingrani, but not broadcast March 7: Leake, but not broadcast
I wonder if they'll announce who (else) is pitching in advance. For spring training games the guys I'm most used to seeing - LeCure, Chapman, Cueto, Leake, and so on - are the ones I want to see the least. I'm going to try hard to catch DeSclafani's start, since I never saw him before. Hopefully I can get home from work on Wednesday right around the time Marquis leaves the game. Friday morning I'll try to catch as much Reds baseball as I can before work. 6am-7:30am is a great time for watching baseball.

Questions About Leadership Have United the Reds John Fay, Enquirer, 2/28/2015
GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Reds would much rather have not dealt with the Mat Latos ordeal.
But Latos' remarks about leadership in the clubhouse struck a nerve. That could be a good thing in the long run.
Everyone from Jay Bruce to Homer Bailey to Skip Schumaker to Marlon Byrd fired on Latos. Joey Votto pulled the beat writers aside and gave an impassioned endorsement of the Reds leadership. Votto went out of his way to say it wasn't related to what Latos said. That was a couple of days after Votto took some shots at those who questioned his approach at the plate.
But you got the idea the Reds were tired of having people take shots at them.
"It certainly created connectivity between our players," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "To have Marlon being vocal about it and he's one of our newest players, I think it speaks to the fact we believe in being united. We really didn't want this to be a running issue. I think it's died down. There is collateral damage. The fact that we're talking about it today. The fact that people still write about it – now we're writing 'what if what Latos said was true?' What type of light does that shine on the organization, from my leadership, to the type of players we have in the clubhouse, to what type of team that Walt (Jocketty) put together? That's completely unfair."
I'm in the clubhouse a lot. I agree with Price: The shots Latos took were unfair.
Take for example the thing about a player "roping the clubhouse guys." That was a shot at Bailey, who does the real cowboy roping stuff. I have no doubt that Bailey would do such as thing. There's lots of gags and tomfoolery in every clubhouse.
But Bailey's work ethic is unquestionable. He's all-business guy when it comes to taking care of himself and getting his work in.
Latos said something about Aroldis Chapman sleeping until the seventh inning? May very well be true. But I'd rather have Chapman rested than on the bench, saying "hey batter, hey batter." Chapman may have had the most dominating year ever by a pitcher, so what he did worked.
Price, of course, wishes this would all go away but he likes how his team reacted to it.
"No one has done the background to define it and I don't want anyone to," Price said. "I don't want people to investigate this and make it a long-running story. But it's just one of these things that all of a sudden, something like that shines a negative light on our club. It just wasn't right. It was unfair. Our guys said 'hey that's inaccurate. We don't believe it.' And they're circling the wagons. I appreciate it. We're all very proud of what we're working towards here."
The only way for the Reds to put this completely in the past is to win. Votto had it exactly right when he pointed to the reason that the Reds leadership is being questioned.
"The thing I wanted to say is we're all right," he said. "We just lost last year. We won three of the last five years. We had a couple of not-so-good runs in the playoffs. There's a lot of variables involved. There's no excuses. We just lost in the playoffs, but we got there. We won the division two out of three times.
"Last year, I would like to think was a bit of an aberration."
The Reds can prove that by winning this year. If they don't win, they'll continue to have to answer questions about leadership. That's how it works in the sports. You don't often hear talk about a bad clubhouse when a team is winning.
A losing season or two makes everyone — well, the heathen media at least — question everything about a club. That's what the Reds are going through.
Votto thinks the people questioning things don't know what they're talking about.
"The thing that upsets me most is the people who are talking about leadership and our clubhouse are not in clubhouse," he said. "They're not consistently here to make any sort of comment on the clubhouse. These are guys who very rarely show their face in the clubhouse. They're never on the bus, not in the hotel, certainly not on the field. These guys are constantly commenting about the importance of leadership with no sort of experience to be able to have that conversation."
Again, to stop the questioning, all the Reds need to do is start winning again.

Votto has passion i know that, i hear him scream the fbomb when he strikes out or grounds out, i like that. Id like to see some emotion from the pen once in awhile. As in leadership i remember one time last year price lit into the guys on hitting, next game the hits flew, then they stopped. Maybe we need price to be more of a hardass maybe?

Joey has passion and is very, very critical of HIMSELF. That doesn't necessarily mean he's a clubhouse leader. The best player expecting to always dominate doesn't mean he's a good team captain.
