Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that SS Hanley Ramirez will be in Boston tomorrow morning to sign a 5 year deal in the 90$ million range.
Most pundits tagged him in the 140$ million range when FA began.
---BOS already had an outstanding offer to Pablo Sandoval for 5 years 95$ million. It's unknown whether or not they will rescind that offer if Hanley Ramirez signs tomorrow as expected. With Xander Bogaerts already in tow it would appear that Hanley Ramirez is set to play 3B at this time. If that were the case it would mean that Garin Cecchini is likely to be traded or converted to LF. However, the Red Sox could potentially sign both HanRam and Pablo and then Cecchini and Bogaerts would be prime trade candidates.

I still think Cecchini is interesting. JBJ as a throw in wouldn't be a bad addition, either.

Pass on both, but I'll take Bogaerts in a heart beat.

Now they are reporting Sandoval has agreed with BOS as well.
Some crazy shat going on in Beantown today.

At the moment MLBTradeRumors is reporting that no agreement has been reached with Pablo Sandoval. If he and Hanley Ramirez both sign with the Red Soxs that does leave an interesting situation with Bogaerts, Cecchini, and even Middlebrooks and Bradley.
Jackey Bradley Jr (24) and Will Middlebrooks (26) no longer look like the possible stars they once did, but I'm sure neither is finished in MLB. Either could be a huge pickup as a low risk, high reward acquisition. Like failed prospect Brandon Phillips and many others. Although they could also continue to be a bust. Still, a risk worth taking for several teams.

So we trade the Red Sox:
SP Johnny Cueto OF Jay Bruce
for
OF Rusney Castillo SS Xander Bogaerts RP Koji Uehara
With a condition that Cueto signs a long term contract with Boston.
Then we try to sign Latos to a longer term contract, say 6 years 100 million.
Get lucky and sign Hunter to a one year deal worth 12 million.
Sign Joe Biemel and Jason Frasor for RP.
CF Billy Hamilton (S) RF Rusney Castillo (R) 1B Joey Votto (L) 3B Todd Frazier (R) LF Tori Hunter (R) 2B Brandon Phillips (R) CA Devin Mesoraco (R) SS Xander Bogaerts (R) Pitcher
Starting Rotation: SP Mat Latos (R) SP Homer Bailey (R) SP Mike Leake (R) SP Tony Cingrani (L) SP Alfredo Simon (R)
RP Jumbo Diaz (R) RP Sam LeCure (R) RP Joe Biemel (L) RP Jason Frasor (R) RP Koji Uehara (R) RP Aroldis Chapman (L)

I do expect Walt to inquire about Allen Craig now though, just based on past experience.

Eh, now that the details are out, it doesn't feel that cheap:
It's shorter in years than I would have expected, but a $22M AAV is pretty lofty for Hanley.
I have to say, I'm not wild about the Pablo or Hanley deals for the BoSox, but maybe that's just me.

I wouldn't touch Hanley for half that unless I was signing him as a SS. He's a malcontent that will pout if he's moved off his position. He didn't start hitting in LA till they moved him to SS. He was very mediocre as a 3B.

He was very mediocre as a 3B. Yeah, and it seems like he may be shifted to leftfield. I know the term is more popularly applied in football circles, but Hanley seems like a "weak motor" player. Tools for days (at least when he was younger), but inconsistent effort and focus.

I do expect Walt to inquire about Allen Craig now though, just based on past experience. I am not sure why you think he would laugh that deal away. Bruce is still young (and cost controlled for a few more years), has 35 home run power when healthy and hopefully just needs some better coaching to help him iron out his woes at the play regarding contact. Johnny Cueto is a freaking ace in either league and if you allow Boston to negotiate a long term contract to ensure they get him for the long haul, to be honest, Boston is making out like bandits as no one on that list have proven themselves at the major league level yet except Koji Uehara. I think a top 5 pitcher is worth something don't you? How much would you expect to pay for a Clayton Kershaw? I am not saying Cueto is quite as good as Kershaw, but not far off. Do you think Boston would get the better part of the deal with Kershaw in that same example, or would LA with what I suggested back. Hell, basically I threw Bruce in to offset the cost for us on Castillo's contract. None of this matter anyways, because Castillo can't be traded, which I hadn't realized at the time I mentioned it. I don't think what I was suggesting was laughable.

I apologize if I worded that wrong crash. Talent for talent it is a kinda fair trade. The reality is sign and trade scenarios rarely happen in MLB. Even if did happen the Sox have no use for Bruce unless they flip him or another outfielder. I also doubt they trade one of their top RP in in year where they are clearly all in by signing Hanley and Panda...
Ceuto for Bogaerts plus filler would make more sense for the Sox. Then it would be up to Walt/ownership to decide if they wanna go for it this year or rebuild.
