Brewers claimed RHP Richie Gardner off waivers from the Reds. Gardner was the Reds' minor league pitcher in the year in 2004 before suffering a torn labrum in 2005 and missing much of 2006. He bounced back last year to go 11-7 with a 3.52 ERA, 138 H and 99/37 K/BB in 143 IP at three levels. Still, his stuff hasn't come all of the way back and probably won't. It's unlikely that he'll make it as a starting pitcher. The Brewers will likely put him in their Triple-A rotation.
So ends the Richie Gardner era. Injuries took their toll, but I'm not sure I understand the Reds cutting him loose. He may still have been of value.

I'm a little suprised at this, but I don't think it is any huge loss. He rebounded pretty well after his surgery, but he was clearly not the same "stuff" wise as he was before it. At this point at best he was a 5th starter/long reliever/swing start between AAA guy.

I don't think he was on the 40 Man Roster, so I'm just not sure I see any benefit from cutting him loose.

I thought he was on the 40 man I'm not positive, but I thought we left him exposed to the Rule V draft last year.

Gardner was on the 40 man, and I think he was last year as well.

Shoulder injury messed his kid up btu I agree why let him go ? He is not on 40 man roster and is still not to old. I guess they might be adding a AA arm to AAA maybe a fisher or lecure ?

Had to go due to the fact we just had way to many non-roster invitees that had to be put on 40 man....
