And it likely includes Alonso in the deal, but what do you guys think the snag is?
I'd say would have gotten Davis or Niemann from them already if we were really after them with Yonder.
I just can't figure out how/why we can't make this one happen.

Forget Shields, nab Moore. With his new contract he just became the most attractive option.
Throw them Alonso, Grandal, Wood.
Not sure who we are gonna have play LF, but I am sure Heisey can play there if needed. We still have Sappelt. Francisco to back up Rolen. We have no backup 1st baseman anymore after Hernandez and Alonso go bye bye.
I think they should maybe just risk it and put Boxburger in as closer from day one and just go with it.

Plus, this should make Alonso and Grandal happy. They are going back to Florida to be near friends and family, and the Rays are getting some serious upgrade in their lineup.
They are giving up a good talent, but replacing with a decent pitcher who is young in Wood, and they still have three top tier pitchers to run out there in Price, Shields and Hellickson...and still have Davis and Niemann along with Wood now.

We aren't getting either of them. Face it, we are going to end up with Jeff Niemann or someone like that.

TB is not trading Moore.
Why would the Reds want Davis or Niemann?

Would Joe Saunders be worth a look at this point? Did the Dback's non-tender him?

Yes, I know I'm the only one on the board who thinks this, but James Shields is a bad option. I look for a big-time regression on him this year.
Thus, I'm sure Jocko is talking to the Rays even now.

Seriously with Moore again? Sure, it'll just take Mesoraco, Alonso, Cozart, Chapman and Sappelt.

Kotchman is a FA and if he were a Ray he would be the 1B because he is a very good defender. Alonso would be DH. Sean Rodriguez is their SS. Brignac is a utility IF. Not that it matters because they aren't trading Moore.

We should be able to pry Shields from them, with Alonso, a contract player like Chapman or Volquez, and another prospect.

Perhaps they don't want to, but if they are goign to upgrade areas of their team, they are gonna have to trade one of their good pitching pieces. They still have 3 stellar pitchers who are young and talented.
They would be trading one of their players that didn't even really contribute last year during the season. Difference, they are upgrading at least two of their offensive spots with young talented guys who would probably be more affordable for them, because Alonso and Grandal would probably take pay cuts to remain in Florida.
Just a thought. Sure, have 4 or 5 young pitchers, but if you can't put many points on the board either, it isn't going to be any easier. They have an okay offense..they really need to upgrade.
