having two young kids in rotation is something I am very exited about. How many games do you see Cueto and Volquez winning combined in 2008. I for one think they win 24.l If this happens the Reds make the playoffs!

Around that 24 sounds about right. If they could pull off:
13-9 11-10
I'd be pretty thrilled with that from two young pitchers.

I see Cueto really doing well. It isnt impossible for a rookie to just get it from the start. Kerry Wood did it. Zach Duke came on very strong.
Cueto- 15-8 3.90era Volquez- 11-10 4.80era Bailey- 4-1 3.70era ( called up late in year and shows a resurgance ) I think if Cueto has a lot of success and Volquez does well Bailey will strive to get his stuff together and will do it.

I don't care if Bailey pitches this year in the bigs at all, unless we are completely out of it.
Unless he has at least three pitches being thrown for strikes, drastically lowers his pitch count, and tightens up that curveball. At this point I think it would be more beneficial to him to leave his curveball as his 4th pitch and really work on the slider and changeup. His mecahnics are more geared towards those pitches anyway.
He is only 21, tell him to figure this stuff out in AAA and come up and start putting his practice there to use rather than relying on his fastball. In an ideal scenaio, i'd like to see his fastball become his 3rd best pitch.

I would be fine with him being in the minors working on his stuff on year. I refuse to call a 21yr old a bust and I am dispointed every time I saw people doing so on the ESPN Boards. I would love to see the fastball become his 3rd best pitch because that would mean he has become a elite pitcher in my mind.
My hope is he gets jealous of losing the hype and attention and sees Cueto with it now ( hopefully doing well ) and he sets out to get it back. In theory he would work hard on his stuff to get this back and would reach his potential.

Wins aren't a big deal to me as much as quality starts and innings pitched. Realistically, I expect 12 from Cueto and 10 from Volquez. And there is no doubt that Bailey comes back stronger because of Volquez and Cueto making the rotation before he did. If he doesn't take offense to that we have some problems but I think he'll get it together. He is 21 years old and Volquez is 24 right? It just takes a different amount of time for pitchers to bring it all together.

Homer is 21 now, turns May 3rd
He's got some time.

I definitely have to go with 24 also, but i think 25 sounds better. And yes if the two of those guys do that then we are in the playoffs, think about it Harang Better have at least 17 wins, if Arroyo gets us 11, Cueto gets us 14, and Volquez gets us another 11, and Fogg gets us 10, thats 63 wins from out starters hell ya we will make the playoffs, I also like to think big lol.

I'd be happy with even 18 wins from these guys. That many would even be huge for us. Let's not get crazy and assume too many wins for these guys. It is just spring training...
