5 IP, 5 K's, 5 hits, 1 wal, 1 ER. His ST ERA is now down to 2.70, and he had today's good start against a very tough mostly complete Phillies lineup. The only concerning part was 89 pitches in 5 IP, but he probably could have gone another inning if it was a real game. I would like to see him get his pitch count a little lower though, but thats what you get with a lot of strikeout pitchers, especially young ones. He should give the Reds a great push at the end of the rotation this year if he can keep it up.

Its going to be really nice to have Volquez turning over the rotation than the great Eric Milton or some other scrub we dealt with last season. I'm excited to see what he can do with a full season.

I'm a whole Lot more excited to see Cueto/Fogg/Volquez than I ever was for Milton/Lohse/Belisle. Not to mention the Bullpen is much improved this year as well. If Burton and Bray can hold it together then the Reds may even be better than league average in the pen which is a giant step up for them.

Its amazing how much better our pitching is this year. Such a great feeling. Our bullpen has no choice but to be better and I think this year they will be at least average if not better than average. Our starters are obviously going to be better too so just think about how much better that makes our entire team. Every aspect of this team is better and will increase the odds of the 'little things' happen more often, and those are what win divisions.
