lol i adjust my player to watch to hopper showing how well he has done career against Lilly but never stolen a base on him and bamn that changes 10 minutes later lol Well, you could see him on base for the first few pitches, and his move was fooling Hopp pretty badly. One time he pitched the ball and Hopp almost dove back to the bag. But he caught him on the right one and took care of it.

Bako has now thrown out 3 of 8 base runners attempting to steal ... Shocking, I would have guessed 0 of 8 coming into the season. I wonder how much of that is due to guys like Harang, Cueto, and VolKz throwing gas, getting the ball to Bako more quickly...

I really don't think Bako's defense has been as bad as advetised. he has done a great job with the young guys and calling games as well as decent at throwing runners out. perhaps hes just playing above his head as i have never seen him play in his previous years but I have no complaints against his D thus far

I made a comment a few days ago about possibly using Patterson against lhp when he was going well. Now, things have reverted to their past form. Hopper's not obviously impressive but is hitting .400 against lefties (.455 obp), has an overall .400 obp and has a short hitting streak. Freel once again is way sub-Mendoza against lhp. Encarnacion is struggling in general but has never had a great lefty split. BP is doing the norm. Kepp is 2-10 (now 3-11) but has 4 walks against lhp. In general, the Reds hitters are making contact (better strikeout ratio than against rhp and 19/15 bb/k ratio!) against lhp but are not driving the ball or are having bad luck. They are slugging a woeful .302. Taking these stats together, the "lob" problem of the last week is inevitable.
On the radio, they neglected to mention Craig Wilson who was supposed to bring some pop against lhp. That didn't work out but Marty blamed the Reds for not trying to resolve that problem. If they get real desperate, they could trade Freel and a decent minor leaguer for Wily Mo (or a similar guy) to just hit lefties (although Wily Mo's health is not in order). Freel and Castro have no place on this club. Freel's position versatility is such an overrated quality with the particular set of options the Reds have (Louisville guys). You can't have a right handed bench player that can't hit lefties.

No Wily Mo.
Not now.
Not ever again.

I've been impressed with EE's patience at the plate this season. I know his average is way low but his ability to draw a walk this season has been nice. He only had something like 39 walks all last year or something. I believe he already has around 15 this season.
The hits will come.....I hope
