Who was the first National League pitcher (edit: should be HITTER) to record two strikeouts in a single inning?
4-19-09 Edit circa midnight: Edited to read "hitter" instead of pitcher.
Guessed: Cy Young, Will White, Bumpus Jones, Bid McPhee, Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, Joe Sewell, Pud Galvin
Hints: #1: He is in the Hall of Fame. #2: He was left-handed both batting and throwing. #3: The player was inducted to the HOF by the Veteran's committee in the 1960s. #4: The player was a Cincinnati Red

Meaning two of the three outs of the half-inning are recorded by strikeouts?

Wow. I have no idea. I'll have to with Cy Young. That's never a bad answer to a trivia question.

Since this is the Reds board, I'll have to guess Will White.

Neither are correct.
I'll try to throw out some hints along the way on this one, because it's a rather obscure question.

How about Bumpus Jones?

Holy crap, I added a MAJOR degree of difficulty to this question....I was completely wrong on the parameters...
The player is a HITTER. Not a pitcher. The question should read "Who was the first National League HITTER to record two strikeouts in one inning?"
Should be interpreted as: Player got multiple at bats in a single inning, and struck out in both.
I apologize for the confusion. I'm an idiot.

Well, since the question said pitcher when I first tried to answer it, I think that it's fine to violate the "don't give two answers in 24 hours" rule in this forum. How about Bid McPhee?

Honus Wagner.

It's not Honus.
Hint #2: He was left-handed both batting and throwing.
