Just figured I would give my sport a shout out lol. The Stanley Cup playoffs start tonight, for those of who just havent gotten into hockey or think its not your thing I suggest watching a game or 2 if you have nothing to do. The passion and intensity cannot be compared to anything and it really is an exciting great sport. Say a prayer for my Bruins tomorrow night against the Habs!

The Stanley Cup playoffs are great to watch, even for a casual hockey fan like myself. I enjoy it so much cause the effort level is just so high. My stepfather grew up in the Boston area and his family used to send him videotapes of Bruin games back in the day of Ray Bourque and Brad Park--early 80's. So I am still a Bruin fan to this day--just don't know the players as well. Never been to a live NHL game though cause no team in Seattle, and Vancouver was a long trip for us to make.
Streaks are made to be broken...GO Bruins..figures it is against Montreal..just like old times.

I'll second that.
The playoff atmosphere for hockey is amazing. The intensity and passion are off the charts and the tension of a sudden death overtime game is difficult to describe.
I'll definitely be catching some of the games.

The NHL has changed their rules after the Scott Avery incident on Sunday. Avery stayed in front of goaltender Martin Brodeur and looked directly at him. Without touching Brodeur, Avery waved his stick side to side about an inch from the goaltender's face. Brodeur said Avery's actions obscured his view, but because Avery didn't touch him, he didn't break any rules. However, the NHL changed its rules on Monday to reflect Avery's new tactic. Waving your arms or stick in front of a goaltenders face for the purposes of interfering with or distracting the netminder will now result in an unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty. Wow, you know you're a pain in the ass when the league has to create new rules to stop you from doing something.

Really not what the NHL needs. his own teammate chris drury even skated over durin the play and told him to cut it out. If that were any other situation than a 5-3 and/or the play offs avery would have gotten a lot more than a shot in the mouth and slash across the legs and well deservedly so. On a kinda related note i have been very disappointed with the officiating of these playoffs. I realize the attempt to crack down on the clutching and grabbing and raise scoring however I didnt realize they would be this ticky tacky in the playoffs. the guys have worked hard for a grueling 82 games. let them play the last thing we need is referees deciding outcomes of games ((see bos mon game 2 and nash det game 2)). even still though these playoffs have been very entertaining with numerous OT games. it was exactly 4 years between watching my team win a playoff game lol

Man, I know the Bruin fans on the board aren't going to want to hear it, but Carey Price is a true stud. It's really remarkable what he's doing and how he's handling the pressure. A 20 year old performing at such a high level and under the microscope in Montreal. If he were in a more high profile sport, he'd be gracing the cover of a lot of magazines and the front page of a lot of websites.
Truly amazing stuff.

Yes Lark, you are right on both counts. He is really playing great. I also don't want to hear it..lol.
Nice story, but I just can't stomach anything good happening for the Hated Habs.

I'm pulling for the Bruins, but I think it's great to have the Habs and Bruins both playing well and in the postseason again. I'm not sure what has been more surprising, the arrival of Carey Price or the emergence of Tim Thomas. Both have been fantastic this year. Do you think Tim Thomas is legit? Or, is he just another Jim Carey?

i would have to say tim thomas is legit but having said that i dont know how many years he has left because of his late arrival. my reason for saying his emergence is the real deal is because the past 2 seasons having watching him for every game, thomas has been simply amazing. his numbers were not as good but the saves he made were just as athletic and at times left me with my jaw on the floor. the problem timmy had in establishing himself as a true number 1 lied in the fact that he seemed to burn down at the end of the season. With no system in front of him and shakey defense at best, thomas was still able to keep the bruins in the playoff hunt until late february the past 2 seasons, and we were atrocious. the all star appearance is credit to the defensive system julien established in front of him as well as better play from our D. Chara looks like the chara of old, wideman has looked like a number 2, ward and even knidy have been solid. with a decent D and this system in place the last two years thomas' numbers would beeven better than they were this year, he was that good. and as for not burning out, its easy to not burn out with the threat of a manny fernandez or alex auld threatening to take your number 1 spot. we have never had that legit back up goalie behind thomas. as well as playing for something with the team actually supporting him, its a lot easier to get up and make those acrobatic saves in february, march and april when its for something. all in all .....real deal! lol

Got another win last night..all it takes is to just win one at a time twice more! ;D I was waiting to hear from you JSmith!!!!!! remember 2004 ?? the 3-1 lead the bruins had on montreal. the similarities are actually eerily accurate. montreal won game 5 5-1 as we won 5-1 last night. carey price, a rookie much like raycroft was, gave up the 5 spot. contrary to what he said he was never able to regain his confidence that series, raycroft that is, yet still went on to win rookie of the year. we shall see what happens with Mr. Price but the garden should be rocking game 6! i cant wait

Just a guess, but it should be one of the biggest hockey games in the "new" Gardens history. You follow hockey mush more closely than i do, I am just a casual fan who happens to be a Bruins fan..hoping game six will be on TV here though cause I can't wait to watch it. I had to follow game five on espn and that really sucks....the Flyers/Caps were on down here.
Hope you are right about the similarities between now and 2004 though!!

Something to be happy about today JHock!!!!! That was a crazy third period...think they are trying to give me a heart attack sometimes. Thank goodness we won and it was on TV here on Versus channel. Sure you enjoyed the game and was figuring you were pretty happy when it finally ended.
