Who do you guys think will be Fantasy breakout stars in 2009 ?
As far as Pitchers go I think Brandon Marrow will breakout in a big way for M's either as a starter or closer. They traded away there closer but for now they still plan on converting Marrow back to a Sp but late last year he looked good as a closer as well. If they cant find anyone else to close even in free agency or in there system dont be shocked to see Marrow with 40 saves in 2009 but if he remains a starter I think the talent is also there to win 15 games with 175 K's !
I have a few hitters on my keeper team I like alot and I think each could breakout in a big way and I will need them too.
Alex Gordon for Royals has all the talent in the world and will be entering his 3rd pro season. I think he has 30/30 type ability and might finally have enough talent around him for him to break out as well.
Pablo Sandoval for Giants hit very well late in 2008 for giants (.345 avg with .845 OPS) while playing Catcher, 3rd and 1st. Chances are he lands at 1stbase but he will at last for 2009 also be able to play Catcher on most fantasy teams. Even without him playing Catcher this guy can flat rake.
Carlos Gomez for Twins needs to learn to take a walk but the talent is there and he is still only 22. He showed little power right now but at 6 ft 4 200 pounds it should develope and he has 50 SB type ability as well. Some Latin Players develope late as far as BB ratio and power and I think Gomez will be one of those. The major prospect in Santana deal has a year under his belt and I think he breaks out as well.
Now one player I like and think if he stays healthy could break out is Hermida from Marlins. I think a change would do him good but if he can finally stay healthy he has the talent to develope into a 3 hole hitter

You mentioned my biggest sleeper, Pablo Sandoval. I think he'll be a top 5 "catcher" hitting in the middle of the order.

Not sure I'd reveal my "sleepers" on this board, as I may need them to be decent in the battle of the board, but I do like Dickerson and I'd give Felipe Lopez a look.

Felipe Lopez would be a solid pickup as well.
You think Marrow breaks out ? He is on your keeper teams and I think he can breakout as a SP or a CL

I'm not sure what to expect out of Morrow. He's got the stuff to succeed in whatever role he fills, but I'm nervous that the Mariners will actually waste him in the bullpen for another year. Still, he almost threw a no-hitter in his first pro start, so the sky is the limit.

I like Sanchez of the Giants. Last year was his first year starting and he pitched more innings then he did the two years prior combined. I think he could be someone with something like 10 wins 4.25 ERA and a strike out per inning.

I agree with Lopez
I think he is going to have a good season and then cash in

I think this is the year Cameron Maybin sheds his prospect label and becomes a dominate MLB player. From a fantasy stand point, Maybin will be a good source of steals and runs and should hit for a very good average. In 8 games last year Maybin had 4 steals, a 543 OBP and a .500 average. Small sample size, but it's hard to ignore numbers like that. He won't be a good source of power so if you're planing on drafting him, make sure you take 3 or 4 power hitters early in the draft.

Jose Arredondo (RP-Angels) The Angels are going to give him every chance to win the closers role in spring training, and with his stuff he should have no problem claiming that role. The Angels love to play small ball so save opportunities should be plentiful. His 9th inning mentality is unknown at this point since he never pitched in the 9th last year(some guy named K-Rod was there), but his numbers last year speak for themselves
1.62 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 16 Holds, 55Ks in 61 innings

Maybin is probably my favorite prospect. I love his overall blend of skills and I think you are right on with his 2009 projection. The power isn't quite there yet, though he did crank a homer off of Roger Clemens in his second career MLB game a couple seasons ago. Still, he's young and the sky is the limit. I have a real hard time buying into the criticism of some pundits that he isn't an elite prospect because he currently hits too many groundballs. I just don't buy into that at all, especially in light of his other skills.

Even so, looks like he could be a good holds guy.

Unless your league tracks holds, Arrendondo is now somewhat irrelevant in fantasy.

I think Wieters now has a Soto-like season.

Ricky Nolasco (SP-Marlins) Going from middle relief to staff ace, Nolasco proved his fantasy worth by winning 15 games. From June 10 on, Nolasco punched out seven or more in 11 of 21 starts, surrendered four or more runs on only two occasions and walked more than one only once. The only negative was a high rate of home runs allowed. His outstanding control and improved dominance keep his ceiling high, though.
