I was reading in the local school newspaper here at EKU and I noticed that we have a kid that's a LH starting pitcher who is projected to be as high as a top 10 pick.
Christian Friedrich who is one of the best college prospects in the country, according to magazines such as Baseball America. The junior Friedrich has been named to multiple All-American teams by Baseball America and Louisville Slugger among others. Friedrich is also a two time all OVC selection and played in Cape Cod summer league. Friedrich shows good poise on the mound as well as having a 94mph and a knee-buckling curve. The thing that sets this kid apart from other is"his preparation and hard work." "He understands that his team depends on him and he never thinks about himself." Coming from the head coach at EKU.
Going to college instead of going pro straight out of high school proved to be more beneficial to Friedrich. "I think you get a lot more experience and time to mature by playing college ball." "I also put on the weight I needed to and picked up a third pitch, a slider."
Sounds like a good kid who has his head on straight. I think if he's their at the 7th pick we take him. Friedrich, a LHP who has good stuff, that's hard to come by. We have some young lefties in the miners (Maloney,Smit,Herrera) but do they have the stuff this Friedrich kid has? I understand we have other needs I remember someone on here talking about a shortstop that plays for UCLA but how could you pass on a LHP that could be dominate. We need a LHP in the rotation when Arroyo and Harang moves on, this kid could be the guy.
