It's gonna be really interesting to see if we really are buyers at the deadline and try to package India and a couple of prospects (I'm assuming) for a starter, or just roll with what we have, accept that we're not ready to compete just yet, and spend a boatload of money in free agency on pitching. I just don’t understand this boards rush to trade India I’d trade Marte, CES, Hinds, Collier not to mention Steer, Senzel, Farley, and many others before I’d trade India. India is a player you build around not trade in a panic. And some have mentioned Stephenson which is just ludicrous. You don’t keep prospects and trade proven big league players. If you trade Stephenson or India you better be bringing back Shane Bieber. I think you may be right about it being a mistake to trade India, but I don't think he's the best defensive 2nd baseman we have. I'm excited to see Strand, Elly, McLain and Steer on the infield.

You can make India the 1st baseman. Strand can be the DH and backup 1st and 3rd. Steer can go to LF since he had been asking for more OF time. He sees the writing on the wall and wants to stay on the field when CES gets called up.

1st and 3rd rop of the 9th, no outs, can't score a freaking run. Not to mention Farmer blows a 3 run lead in the bottom of the 8th. Gonna be costly.
Or not....

And. Here. We. Go. I hate the way David Bell manages pitchers. Your closer had only thrown 11 pitches.

As am I. But Steer could play left field. Hell maybe India could play left field a game here or there. It’s my opinion, and I’m sure I’m probably in the minority but if you are a good athlete and you play on the infield you could play left field occasionally. You want your best 9 hitting. With our starting pitching woes, we need a touchdown every night and sometimes a field goal too.

Seriously guy, every time Díaz has tried to pitch a 2nd inning he gets knocked around like a Greg Hardy girlfriend, or a Greg Hardy when he fight a man. It might be time to give Bell some credit. He has this team in first place with a rotation who’s Ace is a guy who has pitched 5 games. And 4 others who should be clerking at a 7-11 instead of pitching for a major league team. The bull pen has been very good but they are over worked. That is on the General Manager.

He sees the writing on the wall and wants to stay on the field when CES gets called up. I think we need to come to the realization that Strand may never play for the Reds. Nobody is gonna hand a starter to us. It’s going to cost us, it’s going to be painful. Strand is not on the 40 man thus he is the most expendable. Personally I’d trade Steer, Senzel, Barreo, Chase Petty, for Shane Bieber. Then you need to sign Bieber to 6-8 years at about 28 million per. There is a problem with that trade, The Indians would get better offer, and 28 per is too much for Uncle Banana, and 28 probably isn’t enough for Bieber to sign. In other words we need to go to the Junk Yard and start kicking tires.

It's not that I want to trade India, it's that he is a proven MLB level starter who has 3 more years of team control, and that has value. I think the right play here is to go after an innings eater #4/#5 guy with at least another year of team control at the deadline, and then in the offseason, with Votto and Moose off the books, you open up the checkbook and make a splash free agent SP signing. Ashcraft is turning back into a pumpkin - we have, when healthy, 3 viable starters (Lodolo, Greene, Abbott) and really nobody waiting in the wings aside from Petty, who is 2 years away at least. We're never going to win anything without more starting pitching, and I think we're at the right spot in the win curve to start making some moves to open up a window of real competitiveness for a few years to come.

I think we can save the offensive talent, and still get 1 or two pitchers. They are not going to be stars, but all we need is for guys to make it through the middle of August. Then Greene and Lodolo will be back. But as of right now, you can't trade anyone on the MLB team that is part of this core, or you ruin the chemistry and brotherhood they have built to get to this point. One loss there, and you may ruin the team completely even though you upgraded pitching. Guys expendable on the MLB team: Senzel, Newman Prospects capable of being traded: Arroyo Petty Stewart Hinds Hendricks We also have a draft upcoming if we need so if necessary we can dangle Collier or Allen. We just need MLB middle of the road starters with some experience. Guys with 4.5 to 5 ERA, about two of them. We don't need an ACE to get us over the hump. Yes, I would like to see us win this year, but I would rather watch this young team lose with this excitement level than win for a single year but lose our young talent that got us here.
