First post here. Just wanted to say in the latest Ken Rosenthal column he mentions that the Red's have put Ryan Freel on the block but more teams are interested in Scott Hatteberg. He says the Reds aren't very likely to trade Hatteberg even if Votto is named the starter. The Reds have also inquired about Braves backup catcher Brayan Pena.

I don't understand why we wouldn't be willing to deal Hatteberg. I guess we really have that little faith in Votto, which is disconcerting.

Maybe they want to keep Hatte around to be a mentor even when Votto steps up and takes the job permanently. Or maybe Hatte wants to stay in that role

If the Reds are serious about winning, Hatty is one of the guys they need to keep. He has the perfect veteran attitude and he doesn't go into slumps. He also doesn't make stupid mistakes like Freel does.

I love Hatteberg and his approach at the plate, but he shouldn't be starting over Votto.
