As (I think) PSU intimated in another thread, any evaluation of Price needs to be more about process than W/L record. He was handled a flawed roster that has rapidly come to resemble a hot steaming pile of garbage. There isn't a manager in the world that could manage around injuries to Homer Bailey and Devin Mesoraco, the performance declines of Hamilton and Bruce, and the aging of Votto and Phillips.
Still, it's just as easy to criticize the decision-making process and his handling of the ship as it is the team's overall performance. His press meltdown and pre-game ejection were embarrassing and unproductive. His refusal to look beyond Cingrani's bullpen-role in April when the bullpen was going down in flames was bizarre. The extent to which he had any involvement in the Marquis and Gregg decisions is a negative.
On the positive side of the ledger, you have his decision to move Votto up into the 2nd spot in the order and....well.....hmmmm......

Price has displayed virtually no charisma in the job. This probably matters more when a season has gone south, he hasn't impressed as the type to lead a rally. But this is also an early return. Maybe an understated approach, punctuated by the occasional obscenity-laced public tirade against the little mice who are destroying the grain, will have an impact over the course of the season...
Price can still strengthen or weaken his position through the way he handles this situation...

He's managed to convey a desire to minimize the innings Marquis pitches in the rotation, which at least acknowledges the problem. And he's honest when the team plays badly, in a way that doesn't appear to isolate him from the players. I don't think it's impossible for him to pull the team together. The dumbest things he's done have been directed at the media and the umpires, and he's not going to lose any respect among the players going after those targets...
