2 K's, perfect inning in relief, fastball hitting 91-92 a few times. If he can be a good lefty for us this year, it can bridge the gap from now until when Viola or Pelland (or both) get here and can contribute in the pen.
Also, I was glad to see Coffey go 2 innings and look good in the second, the Reds have a pen full of 1 inning guys, and desperately need a guy that can go 2-3 innigns. If Coffey can maintain a 4.50 ERA over the year, i'll take it.

It was great to see Merker throwing the ball so well. That year of rest seemed to do him a lot of good. Hopefully he can keep it up for the entire season. He is a good guy to have in the club house and an excellent pitcher when he has it going.
Coffey still makes me a bit nervous. I'm hoping that first inning of his was just the first real game jitters getting to him. Hopefully he can turn it around and continue to pitch like he did this spring. If we are going to be successful we are going to need Burton and him to step it up big time.
Affeldt also made me a bit nervous last night but in the end he took care of business and didn't allow any runs which is all I can ask for.

Yeah I was nervous pretty much all last night waiting for the bullpen to implode. I was really happy to see Affeldt get out of the jam last night, that was pretty good. I think Mercker is going to be a big help to this team I think. He knows an awful lot and can really help the bullpen stay confident. I too hope that last night Coffey was just getting his first game jitters out. He can't give up two hits to the first two batters like that and expect to stay on the ballclub.

Affeldt also made me a bit nervous last night but in the end he took care of business and didn't allow any runs which is all I can ask for. We really need a left-hander who can pitch an inning or two. Hopefully, Affeldt can fulfill the role at least until Maloney develops a little more.
