The Reds are likely to give Scott Hatteberg the nod over Joey Votto in the Opening Day lineup. Typical. "(The starting first baseman) is whoever's playing that day. Joey Votto has a great upside," manager Dusty Baker said. "But Hatteberg had a great spring. We'll go with matchups. (The seven spot) is an important spot in the lineup." Says the guy who thinks Corey Patterson is a worthy leadoff man. Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

Not sure what the writer's beef is. Hatty should start over Votto based on the Spring and Patterson is the best leadoff hitter option we have. You can make a case for Hopper, but he just got back to camp a couple days ago from a family emergency so he isn't ready either.

No problem here with Hatty starting opening day. He seems to be a very classy guy and very professional. HOWEVER.....I will not be very happy with Dusty if Votto rots on the bench and Hatty plays in 80% of the games this season.

I'm not a big fan at all of Hatteberg starting over Votto..Votto showed great hitting ability towards the end of the year last year and was pretty good in ST this year..Here we go again..Gonna be a longggggg season ;D Just kidding

I love Hatteberg. This writer obviously is lowballing such a great baseball player. Great average, great OBP, great eye for someone who takes a lot of pitches. He's a manager's dream for a role player. I hope he retires as a Red because he gets everything from his limited phsyical skills.
