The US has handled the virus in as poor of a manner as possible. The people who refuse to wear masks, and the general "I'll do what I want cause this is America, baby" attitude, is unbelievably selfish and sad. That said, I don't agree with the premise of sports shouldn't start as a way to "punish" Americans. If professional sports leagues can start and begin in a relatively safe manner, I fail to see why they shouldn't. And I hate to break it to the guy who wrote this, but most of the athletes want to play. Sports are their livelihood and their jobs - they're getting paid *a lot* of money to play. If they don't want to play, the have the option to opt out - the vast majority (< 1%) are not. Reasonably points across the board, though I do wonder about "most of the athletes" wanting to play. Do they "want" to play? Or do they "need" to play? Do they really have a burning desire to play a truncated season with ad hoc rules without fans while wearing a face mask? Or, do they need to play for the paycheck and/or to protect their jobs going forward? Right - when I say most athletes "want" to play, I mean they want to return to their livelihoods. They want to collect their (very large) paychecks. Some have made life changing money already and may not necessarily need the paychecks. Guys like Buster Posey, Ian Desmond, David Price, Mike Leake, and Felix Hernandez have already made generational wealth playing baseball. They are all past the prime of their careers also - both of those are significant factors in their decisions to opt out. I don't fault them whatsoever. Others, like Joey Votto, for instance, have also made generational wealth but are choosing to play. I do believe guys like Joey are playing more so because they actually want to. The guy has more money than he'll ever need, but he's getting closer to retirement and wants another chance at a winner. Sidebar- anyone who ever questions Votto's desire to win should be banned from this website forever (only half kidding). I don't have the percentages off hand, but younger guys want to play as they 1) are far more likely to need the paychecks and 2) do not want to waste a year of development (or a year of their prime). Athletes inherently have a short window of opportunity for success - losing a year of development or their prime could ultimately cost them millions of dollars. They understand that. For most, if it's reasonably safe, they want to play. I get the author's frustration - I share it also. But to "punish" citizens (athletes and fans alike) because of poor decisions made by those in charge (as well as a likely minority of the population who refuse to listen to medical experts and not wear a mask)? Yeah, that ain't it.

I think it has more to do with people being idiots and feeling entitled. I will vote for Trump again over absent minded Biden. Or whatever Vice President the Dems try to put in office who will be the actually President as Biden becomes the figurehead and scapegoat since he couldn't even find his way out of his own house in the morning if he didn't have a team of individuals dressing him and pointing him where to go. Pretty sure the Democrats are the corrupt ones, but I am not going to get into an argument here, this forum was meant for baseball. We will respectfully agree to disagree my friend. I think trump is one of the best presidents this country has ever had. Trump is a twitter idiot who post a lot that he shouldn’t. But what he has actually done I agree with completely. One of the best president's ever? Really? And what has he accomplished so far that you agree with completely? Changing the tax code to favor the rich on the backs of the middle class? Space Force? Giving racists a platform? Destoring any credibility the US had in the global world? Pulling out the Paris climate accord? Wages remaining the same, while the cost of living grows? I could go on all day...

I think trump is one of the best presidents this country has ever had. I’ll gladly vote for him again over anyone the dems put out there most so far left they want to help out illegals foreign countries and those that just want free handouts before doing anything for the working class. I certainly will over Biden who appears to have dementia And Trump doesn't appear to have dementia? Do you know what a cognitive test is? It's given to someone who experts think may have dementia. Since the experts had Trump take the test, I guess they think he has a better chance to have dementia than Biden...

I could go on all day... Attempting to fix the damage done by one of the worst presidents who did absolutely nothing but put into plans that cost people jobs and drove up the price of health care. I haven’t seen a cost of living raise in seven years but It’s looking like I’ll finally get one Being a level head against the Democrats whose plans would destroy this country. Actually trying to stop illegal immigration instead of being for it Trying to put a stop to these violent protestors who are protesting over nothing The only thing he really did wrong was hold off sending the military.

It's going to be a rough winter for Schellis. Somehow I’ll survive. Hopefully the Democrats lose what power they have and the world gets saner Need to get these terrorist off the streets and kill this counter culture bs. If Biden gets in we will be taxed out the ass and if it’s only the rich guess what prices will jump. There will be lofty promises but all that will happen will be jobs and money going overseas illegals will continue to get more rights to the point they’ll have better medical care than citizens I can’t see how anyone with any intelligence can vote Democrat

I interpret the article like this: It's not as bad as it could have been and they are hoping for a bounce back in the 3rd quarter. With a population of less than 11,000,000 and a strong economy based on manufacturing it will be interesting how their economy rebounds. I am not an economist, but from what little I do know about Sweden (which is not much) the question I come away with is will there be enough demand for their product from the rest of the world while dealing with the Pandemic to get the bounce? From a perspective of how big is Sweden's economy and population? I'm pretty sure that Sweden has a smaller population and economy than Ohio. It will be interesting to see what happens. This article I found interesting. www.aier.org/article/the-economic-performance-of-coronavirus-sweden/
